[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The moon, our nearest neighbour. She gives us the tides, provides a light at night, and aids in the Earth's orbit around the Sun. Without the moon, we probably would not be here today. Earthshine, is when light from the Sun is reflected off the Earth towards the Moon, which allows us to see the usually unlit portion of a crescent moon.

Tech Bit:
The problem with shooting this type of shot, is that you can expose for the lit portion, which will not
show the darker part of the moon in the image. I had to over-expose the sunlit part of the moon, to be able to capture the Earthshine.
A tripod is essential, as well as a shutter cable (or use the timer), and to get the sharpest shots, use mirror lockup to reduce vibration.

Hi Graham
Very good shot and quite abstract when you first look at it. It might be worth making two exposures, one for the earthshine and one for the sunlit part and combining them

Hi Graham,
Nice capture, i know the moon is not an easy subject to capture, yes the light part is over exposed but if it wasn't you would only have had that part in the shot, keep it up
Regards
Codge

hi G.
nice image of the moon.
as you say, it is not easy to capture this without a lot of hassle. i tried once but gave up. my results were nowhere near as good as this.
i have done a ws as i think your image is too centralised. i have adjusted the gamma on the moons surface as well.
i could do nothing with the oe, unfortunately.

try again as you are nearly 100% there.
tfs.
Brian

Hi G

You know I like this one - we both understand the full importance of the moon in all her beauty!

I got a copy of this in January when you took it (from harry007) and it is still on as my wallpaper today.

Love this shot

Thanks
Linzi
