[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
These small blue irises grow freely around my garden pond amongst some larger yellow ones.

While I was setting up the tripod, to try and get the yellow ones as a background, this small bumblebee landed on the flower. It could have positioned itself better, but it was off again in a flash.

Shot in RAW: converted to TIFF in FastStone: PP in PS 7. Saved as JPEG: frame and text in FastStone. Uncropped from original frame size.

F3.7: 1/150sec: ISO 100.

Hello, Peter.

Beautiful!

This really is an achievement - to have the whole of the head of that iris in focus against a very much out-of-focus background: not to mention the sharpness of that bumblebee. The iris must be quite deep from front to back, if you know what I mean, and you must have cetred your focus right in the middle of the flower. Great!

Beautiful deep colours and sharpness. I suppose the bumblebee could perhaps have been a little more obliging and smiled for the camera, but it's a great picture as it is.

Excellent!

Best Wishes,

John.

hello Peter,
beautifully captured iris. I love all the colour and patterns of the petals. Well composed with good bokeh. The bee is an added bonus.
regards
Bev
