The light was poor in the ruins of the Kirkstall Abbey Church because it was a rainy day, one of the very few we actually had during our two week stay in the UK in May.

So I used the wall as a stabilizer for the camera to try to capture the moment I saw just then - just a man, a transitory human being, studying the walls that still stand hundreds of years after King Henry tore down the church in an effort to erase Roman Catholicism from his realm.
These walls have outlived that man and will outlive this one too.

Tech: captured in raw, adjusted levels in raw, converted to jpg, cropped slightly from bottom and left, resized, sharpened edges, framed and signed

Thanks for looking and have a wonderful day

Aha, I see King Henry was ready for his ..th wife - yes then he had to erase Roman Catholicism - no room for divorce there..

Silke, that gloomy light is a bonus here - it totally fits the church, the story and provides just the right atmosphere.

Morning Silke
Just an awsome posting - Some many elements to compliment - the perspective, lighting, clarity, mood and DOF are all enhanced by the choice of framing. This one HAS to be added to "my favorites." Simply Stunning.

Hi Silke

Splendid example here, of diminishing linesr perspective & vanishing point. Good sharpness & the man admiring the wall adds a good focal point & nice human element. Tfs!

Hi Silke,

A bright sunny day would have taken away from the quality of your work. No bright harsh lines and shadows to distort the perfect view. The blue in the gentleman's clothing add a bit of brightness. I also like the "roundness" of the umbrella contrasting with all of the straight lines of the stones. Super shot! Lisa

fantastica, felicidades

Hello Silke !

Hope you are doing well. Sweet post here . The composition is excellent . Tones , textures, and light balance are perfect . Thanks to this rainy day to provide you a better balanced light. On a bright and Sunny day, we would not have appreciated the details of the ceiling.

I do not have to add , I also like the framing works (^_*)
Well done !
Robert

Hello Silke,

Another classic shot!
I must give some credit to Roy for acting as a point of interest and a 'scale reckoner', however, the rest is all down to you!
You have used the wall to great effect. It leads the eye down towards the distant window, linking up with columns and arches along the way.
Very good details!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Lovely tones and light Silke. Well composed, excellent perspectives and good repetitions. Perhaps he was lost and thought it was the 'Wailing Wall'.

Hello Silke
I love it.. It reminds me of something. but My I can not nail it down... Its massive structure.. the small man.. It awesome!

Tricia

Very dramatic shot, beautiful light and colour temp, lovely details and depth of field. Everything is beautifully vertical, and that's an essential in a shot like this. Great!

Hello Silke (Lady Of The Lens),
Interesting picture!..Terrific composition.Love the inverted perspective.Nice composed and well framed.

CM

Thanks for the nice critique on my "WEDDING S2"

Well you got an excellent result from your improvised tripod.
Love the composition with the immensity of the wall and the smallness of the man.
Excellent

Hi Silke,
A nice observation and a great composition. This man with his umbrella add a lot to the building capture. The contrast between life and stone immobility. It is a chance that we can deduce that he is reading !
