[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A snatched shot of an old man walking ahead of me. He stopped momentarily, I recognised something in his stance...Charlie Chaplinesque? and I snapped using my point and shoot. It is framed unevenly as I needed to both straighten the image and leave a space around the silhouette. The crop required that it was framed in this way. I seems to work though, don't you think?
As I was working on this image a memory came to me of my Dad describing (and chuckling as he spoke) a Charlie Chaplin film in which Chaplin's character is so hungry that he pulls out of his coat pocket salt and pepper, takes off his shoe and springles it to flavour. My Dad having gone the through 1930s despression years that included means testing, appreciated the wry humour of Chaplin attempting to make steak out of leather.

HI Bev

I like what you saw here and the fact that you went for it :-) its actually a very good composition and well suited to greyscale. The only think that maybe isnt quite right is the dark shadow on the floor behind him... well actually it is right that the shadow is there but I think the sihlouette of the man might have been clearer without it.

Now your never going to believe this but I have just finished processing an image taken of a person from behind ready to upload tomorrow and not only that but I tried it in greyscale too although I changed my mind as the lack of colour took away too much character from the shot..here though the greyscale is definately the right choice.

The high contrast works well to preserve the anonymity here and adds to the feeling of loss and loneliness.
Excellent composition! the tight crop works perfectly
