[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is my mum and one of the very first photos I have been beginning to take. I thought I would add her to the theme because of her name.

She tells me to be at level with things and not to centralise things too much. At the moment she knows a bit more about things than I do but no doubt I will overtake her soon.

I like this one but it was hard to get one of her smiling. She hates her picture being done.

HI Laura,
Welcome to TL,
Nice to put a face to a name, it will be her turn next to post you LOL, nice colour and lighting though the background is a little distracting, a good first post though.
Well done
Regards Andy

Hello "mini"

Good shot for one of your first photos. Good portrait, and a slightly out-of-focus background.

Hello Laura - good shot of your mother, Twinkle-toes. And I like her little smile, and I'm sure as you get taking more photos her smile will become bigger,
Well done and welcome to TL
Janice

Hi Mini-Twinks
Should I thank you or not? I wonder. No, all in all its a pretty good shot, seeing as I hate being this side of the camera. But now you've started I think we could be arguing over the camera very soon.
Take care.
Mum

Hi Laura
Lovely shot of the bigger Twinkle
Cheers

Laura Hi;
mini-twinks, how neat is that. Thanks for the smile this PM and what a great way to start, with your mom and with Helen's theme. You have a very good teacher, so will look forward to your additional images.
Congratulations
Very Well Done

Welcome to Trek Lens, Laura
This is a really fine picture with which to start your adventure on TrekLens. It is not at all unusual for photographers to hate having their picture taken -- call it an occupational disease :)
But you did a great job here, with fine details and a superb smile
As your mum says, it is best not to always centre things too much, but with a portrait it's okay. The best way to get around it is to really crop tight, eliminate as much background as possible. I have done a workshop for you as an example, but even that is pretty conservative, you could crop even tighter to emphasize the smile (just hard to do in a workshop without losing too much definition since we're working with reduced file sizes).
At any rate, I hope to see lots more postings from you....

A few tips to make TrekLens easier and more fun:
- Read ABOUT (and FAQ)!
- Add your camera to your introduction (see Profiles, Equipment Profile)
- Take full advantage what TrekLens allows: up to 800 pixels along one on the sides of the picture and up to 200 Kbs file size!
- Always write more than 4 lines of NOTES, just as you have done here. That allows members to give you points for usefulness and gives them a chance to learn more too!
- Each time you post a picture, take the time to visit at least 10 pictures in the Gallery to write a critique of the works of other photographers. Observing (and critiquing) the successes and errors of other members make for great opportunities to learn!
- Make use of the workshop (you’ll learn more about your own strengths and weaknesses by helping others improve)
I am sure that these ideas will help you make the most of your stay on the site!!

Hello Laura

A very nice portrait of your mum here and what an excellent idea to use her image for the theme. I think you did very well here as the image is nicely focused in the correct place. Remember you don't always have to keep the subject dead centre in portrait work but I see Silke has already advised you on that. No fighting with your mum over the camera now :-)

TFS and for joining in the theme

kind regards Helen

Nice one Laura. Good candid and spontaneous capture.
Cheers, John.
