[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This juvenile male Blackbird (Turdus merula) had just come down to the picnic table for some seed that I placed there, he was just about to fly off as a Wood Pigeon landed to clear up what was left.

Thanks to all who view and comment on my pictures.

Latin name
Turdus merula

Family
Chats and thrushes (Turdidae)

Overview
The males live up to their name but, confusingly, females are brown often with spots and streaks on their breasts. The bright orange-yellow beak and eye-ring make adult male blackbirds one of the most striking garden birds. One of the commonest UK birds, its mellow song is also a favourite.

Where to see them
Found everywhere in gardens and countryside and from coasts to hills, although not on the highest peaks.

When to see them
All year round.

What they eat
Insects, worms and berries.

Hi Andy,
Great motion picture. This juvenile blackbird learning the first skills of flight. Well captured a special shot which I like!
Great posting my friend.
Hans

Good bit of "action" caught here, the speed of the wings is impressive. The sharp details to the head/eye is such a good contrast to the rest of the bird. Excellent composition.. regards h

Hi Andy,

I will say that I'm quite impressed with this bird. The little "fella" is trying so hard to get his wings up to speed for take off! The blurry wing and the sharpness of his face make a nice composition. I hope he was able to enjoy a small preflight snack.

All of the gray and green tones throughout give it continuity.

I think his name should be "Beaker" LOL Lisa

hi, Great capture, really nice tight crop with excellent details and sharpness and a lot of motion blur to give the sense of movement

Hello Andy. Wonderful, nature at it's best caught in one shot and excellent Photographers notes. Thanks for sharing.

Regards Phil.

Hello Andy,

I lioke the way you are progressing with your bird photography. These blurred wings give a good sense of movement whilst the rest of the shot is focussed and allows us to absorb the details.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
