3 in 1: Coming through the Lock
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A series of photographs taken as two narrowboats pass through a lock on the Kennet and Avon canal.
1: The boats - both 7' wide, are side by side in the lock which is just wide enough to take them. Both sets of gates are closed. The "paddles" of the lower gate - nearest to us - are opened to let the water in the lock chamber to drain down.
2: The level has dropped and the lock gates nearest to us are half open.
3: The lower pair of gates are now fully open. The boats are coming out of the lock, and can now continue their travel on the next stretch of the canal.
How a canal lock works.
Three JPEG images combined in PS7. Frame and text in FastStone.
Another photograph of this lock in action - taken on the same occasion. |

Hello, Peter.
An excellent contribution to the theme this week.
All three pictures have excellent sharpness and detail, as is usual for you, and the note is excellent - I particularly like the animation which explains the operation of locks very well.
Best Wishes,
John.
Hello Peter,
A very good series of shots.
Lots of details, sharply focussed and with excellent presentation.
People who have never seen a lock in operation will find this very interesting!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

hello Peter,
belatedly found this one and pleased that I have. It would make a very good postcard as it is very informative. The middle picture is particularly appealing, showing the lock gates opening. I used to have an hankering for a canal holiday but my husband was never very interested.

Hello Peter
A very good example of the 3 in 1 theme here, three nicely angled views of the scene giving a nice view of the area too.
Well positioned neatly in this white frame
TFS and for joining in the theme
kind regards Helen
