[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A photo taken early one morning of Garnetts Mill in Otley, West Yorkshire. For many years Garnetts Paper Mill was one of the major industries in Otley, taking advantage of the soft water provided by the River Wharfe. The industry was started in the late 1700's to provide paper for the newspaper industry. The mill closed in 2005 due to excessive rates charges. The other major industry in Otley was Dawson, Payne and Elliot who were, in the mid 1800's the company who invented and built the modern printing press. They closed back in the 1970's.

Hi Les,
Great shot, a nice POV down the river with good lighting, reading your note it sounds about right with the rates being too excessive forcing the place to close, typical of Britain.
Well done
Regards Andy

Hi Les!

Cheers!

Hi Les,its hard to believe of a working newsprint mill back in the 1700s lasting through until 2005,they must have been doing something right, the closure must have been a blow to the community. Its stucture blends with the countryside,I like your composition & colors captured.

Great perspective Les, love the way the river lead you into the picture.

Exposure is spot on with detail in both the shadows and highlights.

Nicely framed too, with the foreground branch.

Hello Les
Very nice composition using the trees to frame the shot.
Great reflection and dof with strong colours.
The bit of sunlight hitting the mill shows off its texture nicely.
Nice work
Dot

Nice one, good PoV and colours. I like the way you've framed the mill using the trees.
Cheers, John.
