The Westland Lynx is British-built helicopter. It was originally designed as a utility craft, but battlefield and naval variants were developed, and the helicopter exported to over a dozen countries.

After performing well during the Falklands War, the Lynx saw combat for the second time during the Gulf War. Six Royal Navy Lynx helicopters on four Royal Navy frigates saw combat, and achieved 15 Iraqi ship kills (many of which were by Sea Skua missiles), at least 5 of the kills being attributable to a single helicopter (Lynx 335 of HMS Cardiff).

Here is a summary of the Lynx's technical specifications:

Crew 2 or 3
Rotor Diameter 42 feet (12.8 metres)
Length 50 feet (15.2 metres)
Height 12 feet ½ inch (3.7 metres)
Maximum Take-off Weight 11.750 lb (3,291 kg)
Maximum Speed 200 mph (322 km/h)
Range 328 miles (285 nautical miles, 528 kilometres)
Service Ceiling 8,450 feet (2,575 metres)

Nice capture. Good sharpness, with some blur of the rotors showing the motion. A little more blur would have been nice, but then you overall sharpness would suffer from the slower shutter speed.

Good contrast against the sky. Nicely composed.

David

Hi Andy,
The show of the Lynx is always impressive. You made a fine capture of this agile helicopter only a pity the most forward rotorblade is cut of. Also I have the impression the shot can be more vivid, so made a WS what I mean. Nevertheless a fine posting Andy!
Hans

I like this, you can see the rotor tips (swept tip composite) quite well. Good action shot, tfs.

Hard to believe, but I think it is still the fastest out there!!
