.... and what happens?

Today I wanted to post the full view of this magnificent horse, of all the images I took I didn't have a decent one of this lovely Percheron in all his glory. How dissapointing.

I decided to post this one as I love the angle of the shot, as mentioned yesterday I was sat on the ground. However this is nowhere near as sharp as I would like and the rope is accross the bottom right hand corner. I have therefor posted two additional shots to workshop. I used a diffused inner frame here to try and disguise the rope. Cloning was out of the question as the rope crosses the wheels and cropping not an option as I would have lost the horses hooves.

He maybe doesn't look quite as big to you here as he is hitched to the carriage but notice the size of the wheels and you will see that the carriage its self stands very tall.

To complete this short series I include below the final details from Wikipedia. Note what they say here about the colour!! I think he looks quite fine as he is.

Color
Percherons are generally black or gray. Some registries only accept those two colors, though chestnut, sorrel, and bay colors are acceptable for registration in the US with a DNA test confirming their parentage. Gray and black are produced by dominant genes. The red gene for chestnut is recessive, and a red foal can only result from the mating of two black horses if they are heterozygous, having the red gene present in both sire and dam, and even then it is only a one in four chance that a chestnut will be produced.
Some Percherons have white markings on the head and feet, but excessive white is undesirable.

Height and weight
Percherons range in height from 15 to 19 hands high, most are between 16-2 and 17-3 hands high. They can weigh up to 2,600 pounds with the average around 1,900. One of the tallest horses on record was a Percheron named Dr Le Gear. Foaled in 1902, he stood 21.1 hands (7 feet) at the withers and weighed just under 1,370 kg.

Lifespan
Percherons can be long-lived horses, living over 25 years. An unverified record states a Percheron lived to be 41

Well my friends I hope you have enjoyed his short series and I have many more shots from the Rally to bring you over the next few days.

TTFN and I hope your all working hard on your desaturation shots for the theme.. I still have to shoot or choose one!!

Regards (a soaked to the skin from walking to work in the pouring rain) Smurfie

Hola amiga,
interesante trabajo,
bello momento y pov,
excelente encuadre y original escena,
saludos Helen.

The shot is well composed and I think the pp work in terms of the frame is a distraction, not an aid to the overall presentation. Apologies but I think the shot is certainly strong enough to stand on its own without the frame.

At least that was until i read your note properly and realised you have actually been clever in trying to disguise the rope! So many congratulations on the clever work and a slap on the wrist for me for jumping to conclusions!

As I mentioned, I think the composition is strong and the image interesting, especially the dog in the carriage. It's a slight shame the face of the gentleman isnt more clear, but the sunshine and shadow combination was the issue there.

A strong and interesting image.

hi helen.
this is still a fine image regardless of its minor flaws.
it is great to see this magnificent animal in its glory. he looks as if he is enjoying himself, ears up and trotting with a proud gait.
i will show this to my equine fixated wife later once she has finished working with the horses, here, at the school.

just one last note;
would somebody, please, feed that dog. wow! is that thing skinny? ;)

your series is beautiful.

Greetings Helen ;)))
Have a nice day,
J ;)

I think this guy is tall enough Helen! It sure is a beauty and I guess that counts even more...

I must say that I really do like this view, the angle is great.
I do miss a bit of detail/contrast in the people's faces, but... that is not quite the subject of this image. The horse has many details!!
Good composition due to the fact that there are little or no other people in the pic!
Nice work!

Cheers,
Anneke

Hi Helen, beautifull shot with dreamy atmosphere and very ballanced composition. Very suitfull framing.TFS

Hi Helen,
Its so difficult to notice ever distraction when you are shooting at shows like this and its not till you get home and download them that you see them, but I applaude you for making this shot fantastic. I love the detail and the the colours.
This horse is so lovely, its unusual to see a horse of this size pulling a 4 wheel scurry trap but he looks like he is enjpying it.

Hi Helen:
You have done a pro work here:)
Superb angle, and though the faces may not be that lit but such an mazing feel with this contrast...
superb details & 'stop-action' that you have mastered!
david

No, I REALLY like this one Helen and the motion probably causes a tad bit of unsharp, but I like it! Nice details! The horses stand out BOLD in this shot! Super composition here!

Hi Helen,
how nice to live in this beautiful countryside

Hi Helen, like any event one can't get a clear shot of the main subject as there are to many distracting elements, crowds, tents, etc, etc.so you have done well to capture the strength & beauty of this horse.I'm not sure if a flash would have helped in making the peoples faces a little more clearer but as they are not your main subject its a week point on
my critiquing.I like the inclusion of the greyhound, hope I got the right breed,it looks as though he may take off at any minute.Hope your weather is improving. This looks like a great days outing.

Hello Helen,

I really like this.
As you say, the angle is just right and the subject, wow!

I see why you think it is not sharp enough but a few minor adjustments make a great difference. I cannot do a w/s as I am at my limit for the day but this is what I tried:
isolated drivers' faces, lightened, brightened and sharpened. isolated horse and sharpened. It worked very well!

Thanks for this.
It is a lovely shot.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

You're right -- the quality is just not as fine as your earlier ones, but I do like the PoV an composition

Sharp it may not be Helen but sharp enough for me. A good POV, nice colour and well framed. A real chunky horse that one,
David
