A little Fishy
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The Royal Mile in Edinburgh has numerous narrow, steep 'closes' or alleyways of it. This shows a sign at the Royal Mile entrance to one of these closes, Old Fishmarket Close. It was once 'a steep, narrow stinking ravine' when used as a poultry and fishmarket. The close leads down to the Cowgate.
George Heriot who was the founder of the Edinburgh public school Heriots, lived here in 1856.
I took the picture it black and white but warmed it up slightly by altering the tone and cropped it from the original (shown in the workshop). |
