[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Took this shot of an Owl on a recent visit to Blair Drummond Safari Park.
Thought this was ideal for this Fridays theme.

Using Paint Shop Pro.
Created a new layer and used the magic wand to remove the yellow in the eyes.
Converted the layer to B&W.
Cropped the image.
Merged the layers.
One step noise removal (had the ISO too high, forgot to reset after trying to capture some shots of a flying display).
Resized for TL.
Added a border.

Hello Derek,

How opportune was this. Just logged on to your site as this appeared!
I agree with you! Perfect for the theme!
What part of an owl needs to be observed ... it's eyes. This desaturation has really made me appreciate how well areas can be emphasised by this technique.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

hi derek.

i love the eyes.

Hello, Derek.

Excellent!

I agree that this is indeed the ideal subject for the "Desaturation" theme.

You have presented here a wonderful image with the eyes of the owl really standing out against the monochrome background. Very expertly done too.

I know that there is a little noise or graininess here due to your high sensitivity setting, but it really does not detract at all from the quality of the picture in my opinion.

Thank you for sharing this delightful picture with us, Derek.

kind Regards,

John.

hello Derek
how are you friend?
this is a nice shot of an owl
your thought is perfect and it looks fantastic for the theme, colours of the eyes came up amazingly and stand out against the desaturated background.
wonderful presentation my friend.

Bonjour Derek,
Ce portrait s'adapte parfaitement à l'exercice !
Quel effet hypnotique, le niveau de saturation de ton jaune est très bien dosé.
bonne journée

Karèle

efficient result, fine subject for such a PP, good job

Nice result! good composition and penetrating eyes
cheers

Hi Derek
This is excellent for the theme - the eyes are really pin sharp and I like the fluffy B&W of the owl (looks like a juvenile tawny? but pure guess due to B&W)
Nice composition and pov
Cheers

The desaturation really puts am emphasis on the eyes. But I think I would have enjoyed the original picture too.

whoo whooo whoo took this excellent photograph

great close up on the owl and making his eyes colored on your desaturation really looks good. nice blurred background.

Hello Derek

A very good portrait of this owl, good strong detail and contrast. An excellent idea to leave the eyes colour which makes them stand out even more as a focal point. Lovely work

TFS and for joining in the theme

Kind regards Helen

Hello Derek!
I like so much owls eyes!
Lovely idea for Fridays theme!
Excellent done!
Best regards!
Lili

Clever work with PSP Derek, mine was just a straight desat and erase. A good subject with the eyes the way they are and nicely converted.
