A green sea of barley

Here an other view of the green "hills" of Norfolk. I'm not 100% sure, but I think this type of cereal is barley (Gerst in Dutch). Anyway wjatever it's called, I like the green and blue contrast.

Barley

Barley (Hordeum vulgare) is an annual cereal grain, which serves as a major animal feed crop, with smaller amounts used for malting and in health food. It is a member of the grass family Poaceae. In 2005, barley ranked fourth in quantity produced and in area of cultivation of cereal crops in the world (560,000 km˛).[1] The domesticated form (H. vulgare) is descended from wild barley (H. spontaneum). Both forms are diploid (2n=14 chromosomes). As wild barley is interfertile with domesticated barley, the two forms are often treated as one species, Hordeum vulgare, divided into subspecies spontaneum (wild) and subspecies vulgare (domesticated). The main difference between the two forms is the brittle rachis of the former, which enables seed dispersal in the wild. [Reference: Wikipedia.com]

Hi neighbour :)
wonderful summer view with lovely contrasts.
Perfectly framed and presented.
Good choice for the vertical approach.
Have a lovely WE.
Ioana

beautiful scenery, maybe the clouds look too sharp for me, the framing is fine, attractive colours

lovely view Hans... I really like this kind of landscapes... the colors are stunning indeed and they combine so nicely.

Did you choose for this camera setting on purpose? F/22 1/30seconds??
For a moment I was wondering if it would be better to set the shutter faster, so you can easily get a sharper image...??
Just wondering....

Love the contrast in the sky due to the filter!! Super!

Cheers,
Anneke

Hallo Hans
Mooie totaal landschaps foto.
Gr Jos

I like the effective simplicity of this image. I too am curious about the f/22 and 1/30 combination - did you use a tripod for this shot? It is a shame the frame is so big as it has reduced the size of the image and the detail we can see. I believe the image would benefit from being seen in a larger format.

But the scene itself is lovely, the colours are strong and complimentary and the vertical format has worked well for a shot of this landscape. And enjoyable and pleasing picture.

What strikes me about this is the sharpness! (Did you apply extra sharpening to make the clouds so crisp?) Superb colours, excellent details and very fine composition. I love the way the barely dominates here. And I must say I am impressed with the overall sharpness from f/22 - I have found that I lose some of that over f/16- so I would love to know your secret.

Hoi Hans.
Perfect landscape picture in Portrait mode.
The unsharp forground gives it even more dept.
Good booster of colours.

Hi Hans,I like your angle for capturing this scene, gives a great feeling of space.I like the detailed foreground leading the eye into the softer hues of the field & that great blue & white sky makes for the ideal background.

HI Hans
Could be from our area, the summer sceneries so resemble each others from so many different countries.
Love the low shot leading us to those beautiful white clouds.

Hi Hans,
Very beautiful composition, good pespective.
Ralf

Trademark Baronesque saturation and light, a beautiful sweeping perspective as always. I tried to catch some shots this good in the Philippines, not sure I succeeded ... but at least you set a benchmark for the rest of us. :)

Hi Hans, Good simple composition with many things all humans like to see, cereals, blue skies and some clouds. It looks so simple but says a lot. The barley made me think also of biofuels so it has a message for all. TFS. Murray.

Bonjour Jonathan,

Beautiful!
I love the point of view you chose for this as well as the lone tree off to the top right.
To me it takes the obvious beauty of the image and moves it from a very pretty picture to a great photograph.
Great composition and presentation.
Thanks,
Wilt

Hi Hans, fascinating view of beautiful place with superb sky, wonderful light and colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Hans,

Very lush! Gerst... I was also looking what it could be. I'm not sure I have often seen 'gerst' on the fields in the Neyherlands. Nice greens!

Hi Hans

What a charming and very English scene (well apart from the blue sky). Beautifully composed with vivid colours. Nice POV as well. The DOF is spot on to give you a sharp shot from front to back
