Good morning peeps

Arrived at dads and doing some serious chilling. Off to Tattershall castle later today and hoping that the national trust allow use of cameras there as I want to give my memory card a serious bashing!

Another shot today from the Hollowell steam rally. At the entrance to the show there was a field set aside to queue for helicopter rides. I didn't think my wallet would stretch to a ride so I just stood to the side and got a few captures of others enjoying the thrill.

Due to all the smoke from the steam engines the view is a little hazy but I quite liked this shot. Might have been better if the right hand rotor was turned a tad more to show more clearly though. I do like the haze show9ing behind the rotors created by the heat given off by the engines though

Hope your all having a good weekend

good image, hope i get some great shots too. i am off to fladbury garden walkabout today, and the sun is shining.yippee.....

Hi Helen,
Nice capture with good colour and sharpness, I would have given 100 ISO a try here though as the fast shutter speed has stopped the rotor blades and they don't fly too good like that LOL, I like the heat coming from the exhaust, what better air to sniff than that filled with smoke from a steam engine with the hint of aviation fuel.

The National Trust don't allow photography inside the building but outside in the grounds is no problem.

Well done
Regards Andy

Well capture the right motion of rotor and well position of the chopper inths frame,Well sharpness on subject and good soft blur BG too.Good work,TFS.

:-) I know what you mean Helen... If the cloudy sky had a little more contrast the right hand rotor would have shown better.
Maybe in a case like this you could try a SND filter...
The filter is grey on top and has a gradient to clear in the bottom.
Your sky would show so much better then.
Split Neutral Density works really well with clouded skies, but also with snow!
In fact you darken the bright parts of the image with the grey part of the filter...
If you buy the Cokin system the cost will be real low and you can use more and different filters.
Just before I left to Iceland I bought the SND filter and I love it!!

Love this view! I think you caught it just in time with the blades in the sky.

Cheers,
Anneke

Hello Helen.
Good 'shot' on the Shopper, with its wings nicely spreaded above the green.
I've spent a few hundred hours in those noisy machines, during my 2.5 years off-shore work, flying from Stavanger to our Beryl A production platform and sometimes via Bergen, Settlands or Aberdeen back home.
Give it a try, sure you will like it.
Regards
Jan

I've done this and YES!! I would go again! I think everyone should go once in their lives! This is a nice shot, no problems with it as far as I can see, I like how the chopped is brilliant color, against the BG being less! Super!

I love the capture, Helen - superb timing, excellent composition.
Maybe it is my screen, but it seems that it could use just a little more contrast or something to give the background clouds more oompff (a highly technical term - LOL)

Wow, nice catch and good timing.
The heli is in good focus.

Imagine having an Apache or Airwolf instead of this one, that would be awesome !
