[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
i was out today taking shots of my new lily that has just opened. i swapped the brick wall for a piece of orange card as a backdrop and got in close with the olympus on macro. taken in bright cloudy conditions.

Unusually dark-toned subjects are not an everyday problem. Light-toned subjects are far more common, and they typically distort the camera’s meter reading to a greater degree. The result, though, is distinctly dull and gloomy. Only by reshooting with +0.3 EV compensation are you able to restore a realistic-looking brightness to the shot. At first you might need to experiment a great deal to find appropriate EV compensation values for light or dark-toned subjects. But with practice, and a growing understanding of your camera’s behaviour, it gets a lot easier to work out when to override the camera, and by how much.If you’re photographing anything white, beware! Your camera’s meter will attempt to reproduce it as a muddy grey, so you need to intervene. This shot required +2 EV exposure compensation to look ‘right’.

Beautiful!

Very nicely taken and presented - the background colour complements the beautiful bloom perfectly. Fabulous sharpness in those stamens and anthers and lovely softness in the petals too.

I rather like these notes which you have been adding recently: your "Tips of the Day" are interesting and informative, especially this one. I presume that with your Olympus C5050 you cannot shoot in RAW, a feature which I find very useful for allowing, at least to a degree, compensation for some over or under-exposure.
