Posted for the Friday Time Theme.
The photograph is of the base of the sundial located in West Meadows Park, Edinburgh. The sundial was erected in commemoration of the International Exhibition by His Royal Highness Albert Victor, Prince of Wales, in Edinburgh in 1886.
The sundial is composed of a bronze sphere on an octagonal stone base. Eight different kinds of stone, in 11 courses each engraved with the name of the quarry from which the stone was derived:
1st red stone from Moat Quarry
2nd red stone from Corncockle
3rd yellow stone from Whitsome Newton
4th yellow stone from Cragg
5th blue stone from Myreton
6th yellow stone from Cocklaw
7th yellow stone from Redhall
8th blue stone from Myreton
9th red stone from Ballochmyle
10th blue stone from Myreton
11th (base of armillary sphere) yellow stone from Redhall
The facets of the base are engraved with quotes on the subject of time, eg 'Time and Tide wait for no man' and 'Man's days are as a shadows that passeth away' and one featured in this photograph 'Time as he passes us, has a dove's wing unsoiled and swift and of a silken sound'
