I posted an image for the theme of “time” yesterday, so please do not add this one. This was my alternate choice for the theme.

I have long been fascinated with the traces of ourselves we leave behind over the generations, whether they are as old as 4,000 years or as young as 40 years. Sometimes the traces are accidental and sometimes deliberate.

Once there was another building leaning against this wall. Was it a cottage? Or was it merely a stable for the horses that were once commonplace in this town? We can speculate and weave tales around that fragment now left behind accidentally with the removal of the little building for the construction of a modern mundane parking lot.

Somewhat newer is the more deliberate marks left by a graffiti “artist.” It is an odd thing that we sometimes feel the need to leave a deliberate trace of ourselves to say that there was a time when we were here. These traces here are quite new, but I have seen them as ancient as 3,000 years old – markings left by wanderers to say “I lived and I loved. ”

Lastly,m there are the traces of time left by nature- bricks that have begun to crumble after generations exposed t rain, ice, wind (and pollution) and the wild grasses that have taken hold in a corner inaccessible to the owners - signs that nature is trying to reduce the brick to the sand and clay of which it was made.

Tech: Taken and adjusted in raw, converted to jpg, cloned out a chimney and the peak of a roof behind this wall, (thought about straightening the crooked roof line and decided that it must stay as it was built :)) resized, sharpened, framed and signed

Thanks for looking and for all your critiques, workshops and suggestions. Have a memorable, healthy, happy, and safe weekend.

The wall looks wonderful but I'm not sure abou including the sky.
Anyway, great addistion to the theme.

have a great weekend,

Silke I enjoy the thought process in your notes as much as the image. We leave are marks on this world in many ways, some we never are aware of. Not only the brick mason but the tagger.

Hello Silke
I really like all the details in the bricks... Most would walk right by this and not see the history that we have left behind.. Nice light
I'm ok with the sky being in the photo.. the grass growing on the roof shows more "time"

Tricia

Thanks doll for ALL your help this morning! I have to say, as an artist I LOVE graffiti..yeah yeah.. I know, it's destroying public property..but I CAN be erased! I LOVE this! brick Textures are one of my favs! This is nice, really nice to place the RAW at the bottom corner! Nice work as always Silke!

Linda

wow, "out of box" concept, another interesting interpretation of TIME.

I like this message and note a lot Silke.
It's very powerful and so true.
At first i was a little troubled by the amount of sky at the top, thinking maybe there should be more or none?
But if you read the note and look back at the shot, it really brings it home! Unique post.

Very interesting note! It gets me thinking and the picture is a perfect example. I wonder how much longer until someone takes this building down. Both the lighting and detail are excellent. Have a great day!

Good title - well seen and captured Silke.
The bricks have kept in good condition where the building originally was. Or are they newer bricks.
You're right about speculating and weaving tales - you could make up some good stories on just this scene

A shot speaking by itself "traces of time " I appreciated the colors of the bricks, your frame is a nice addition.

Iso.

The sky had to be included or the weeds growing from the rooftops would not have come into play. Lovely colours in that brickwork Silke, fine detail and the inclusion of the of the graffiti adds another dimension in time. TFS,
David

PS there are several older building in Launceston just like that.

Hello Silke,
I like this observational shot. The colour and texture of the brickwork, the ghost outline of a former roof apex and the graffiti all make a balanced composition. I think I may have been tempted to crop the sky out though.
Bev

cleverly cropped beautiful brickwork makes interesting composition. framing is good too.
