Canary Wharf Underground Station

[1st upload]
This is an attempt to recreate another photographer's work (Janet Hall [1946-2005]) which can be seen at:
http://www.ribapix.com/image.php?i=20556&r=2&t=4&x=1
There was enough natural light not to have to worry about artificial light causing temperature effects. The shot would have benefited from a wider lens which would have enabled the frame to encompass the whole of the canopy. Moving back to get a better composition resulted in longer exposures and colour casts.
You need permission to use a tripod on the London Underground system and the use of flash is illegal (not a lot of people know that).
The image was produced by scanning a 9"x6" print @600ppi on a Canon MP210. Digital processing was minimal - only a little un-sharp mask plus size reduction & jpg compression.
The stations on the Jubilee Line Extension have attracted architectural approval (even if their construction didn't get project management approval as the system came in well over budget - just in time for the Millennium.) Although this photo was taken recently after construction, a signal electrical fault caused train services to be suspended, evacuation of the station and termination of the shoot. |

no tripod ? no flash ? so what can we do on here ?
although the 1sec exposure you get quite good sharpness,
but the framing really needs improvements,
you framed too low, empty foreground, and you cut top windows
but once again nice attempt for a shot without tripod and with 1 sec exposure

Hi Paul,
I admire the effort, although the result is not the very best. To my amateur eye the picture is slightly overexposed, and oversharpened, but since you scanned it I realise you had a limited choice of improvements to it.
Try taking a shot of the Canary Wharf station when it's full of people on their way to/from work. The crowd of dark suits is impressive ;)
