Hi Peeps

Another strange title this morning?

Allow me to explain. As many of you know I went to stay with my dad last weekend and I have tried many times to capture images of the Lancaster bomber, spitfires and Typhoons stationed at RAF Coningsby.

It is traditional in the UK to bring back a stick of rock (Candy) for friends and relatives when returning from vaccation.

As I clearly can't send you all a stick of candy I am going to post a short series this week of these magnificent aircraft and I can tell you Smurfie had the biggest smile on her face when she shot these.

I have been to the base a number of times but never have I seen such an awesome display as I saw last Tuesday. Commencing with this magnificent old lady flying over head to land as we got out of the car on arrival.

Dad was parking the car and I had seen this wonderful old lady flying up behind us so I had the door half open ready to jump out of the car as soon as it stopped.

Absolutely amazing! she flew straight over us and turned on to the end of the runway to land.. She then taxied up to the hanger which was about 50' in front of where we had parked, she came to rest just in front of us aside the two spitfires that are also based at Coningsby.... Smurfie heaven lol

Below is a link to some interesting and detailed information on this big bird, too much to copy and paste here though. I will post more shots of her in the next few days.

Enjoy the read and I hope you like this first stick of rock from my little holiday.

TTFN and have a great weekend.

Luv Smurfie

Hi Smurfie,
Ha like this stick of Rock :-) This taste very good :-)
Gorgeous image of this wonderful Liberator. Excellent sharp and nicely positioned against the blue sky with fluffy clouds.
Great posting my dear!
Hans

Wonderful capture of a historic model!!! Nice clear shot of a fast moving object!!!! Bravo!!!

Hello Helen,

I had a visit to an airport this week. We took the class to Manchester Airport to see Concorde and role-play flying a Monarch.
I'm afraid the weather was not like this though! I can see blue sky around the Lancaster! We just had rain!

This is a great stick of rock! Perfectly composed and nicely detailed. The fluffy clouds add interest to the sky around the plane.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

well captuered Helen very nice composed shot tfs

Hi Helen,

great capture of Lancaster bomber. I don't resist to a great shot of a airplane.

Congratulations,
Romeu

Hi Smurfie,
She is a grand old lady and you have captured her well, she is nice and sharp though I think a slightly slower shutter would have caught a little more colour and detail on her underside also giving a little more prop blur.
Well done, I look forward to some more from Coningsby.
Regards Andy

Hi Helen
A trip down memory lane with this bomber.
You got a fantastic clear shot of the lady whose props look like they are not working.

Very fine details on this and a good lesson in how to shoot planes -- fast speeds and wide open apertures :)
Love the tight compositon here
And your notes are such fun

The prop freeze, the angle where the airplane creates an X all work well. Beautiful capture of a beautiful bird.

wow.. great capture Helen! Nice and clear with good details... I love the clear view on the "glass" nose of the plane. Cool!

Cheers,
Anneke

Hi Helen, your best yet... getting the props fixed... excellent work.. good full framing as well.

I was starting to answer in Dutch Helen, better use english - I can well imagine the satisfied feeling you got after this capture. Very good details and yes with 1/1600 you will freeze the action of the rotors.

Wonderful work,

TFS

Helen Hi:
First thanks so much for the "Stick of Rock" (both the candy and the image). Your image is amazing, not at all an easy undertaking and you have composed and presented this very impressively. Thanks for the wonderful Educational note, as well.
Congratulations, my friend, very well done.
I hope you had a great week and have an excellent upcoming week.
