Good morning Peeps

Please excuse the jokey title.. Hans (Greenbaron) and I have a little competition this week. I have to give him a clue to the type of image and post my capture and see if he can post a similar one. So the clue yesterday was maternal instinct.

When visiting my dad recently we climbed to the top of the local castle (Tattershall) once there the views were just superb and I spied a field with 3 mares and their very young foals resting in the heat. As soon as we climbed back down the stairs I dragged my dad accross the road to get some shots.

The lovely grey pony mare had been laying down resting peacefully when the young foal decided he was hungry (see workshop) He got up and trotted around his sleeping mother nudging and pushing her to rouse her, very soon she was awake and standing up to perform her maternal duties and feed the little one. After a few minutes he had his fill and promptly laid down to sleep again.

I will post another shot to workshop taken prior to this on with the mare still on the ground. I was going to crop more from the BG to give a closer view here, however if I removed the other grey mare you would just see the foals laying alone on the floor sleeping in the sunshine. I felt that might look strange with no mother looking over them so kept the image as shot.

OK then Hansie good luck my friend, lets see what you come up with today :-)

TTFN and many thanks for taking the time to view my images.

kind regards Helen

P.S. You might notice that unusually I have not framed today's image. I felt the fence behind the horses somehow framed the image itself and thus left the shot as it was this time.

Yes, this is a very maternal scene Helen. It is good to see the mares and foals all together in the field. I love seeing the dark brown foal with it's white / grey mother

Hello Helen,

I just love the image you have captured here. Lovely details with excellent lighting.
The way the mother is nudging her foal gives this so much tenderness.

I think it would have been good if you had been able to isolate the two without the distraction of the sleeping horses in the b/g.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Helen,

Amicalement
Gildas

very nice capture my dear friend...
well done

Arindam

This little one hardly looks like its mama, just the little bit of white on the back leg! Nice shot of nature at its best.

hmmm... I think I would have done a real tight crop on the mare and her foal. No distractions what so ever.
Other than that it's a wonderful picture... showing a a lot of tenderness, love and care from the mare.
The light is great, specially showing good details on the white mare.

Cheers,
Anneke

Hi Smurfie,
Great to give me this mission to show "maternal feelings" for a male...Great, really brilliant I hardly could sleep of it. For you as mother it's easy...so you show here a great series of these pony's here the "main" image and in the WS the others. Well done my dear Blondy!
Really enjoy this view!
Hans

Hi Helen,

I just love the vivid colours and contrast! Very nice competition and you both did well :-D Goodluck!

TFS greetings Simone

Hi Helen,
Ahhhhhhh this is a great shot, mum and babe are so cute, it always amazes me how nearly all grey mares will have dark foals which as they get older will change colour, I know that it also depends on the colour of the father as well but this little one is really dark and stands out against him mum.
Nice detail and colours.

A great moment to capture - and especially nice in this shot since the mare is nuzzling her foal while it drinks - always cute!
I was about to suggest cropping out the gray mare when I read your note. I still think I would prefer her cropped out, but I understand why you didn't.
Very nice work!
