Good morning Peeps

After being thrown the gauntlet yesterday to post an image entitled "Eye" by Hans (Greenbaron) I decided to try something really different.

Just in case you didn't recongnise it this is the "eye" of a needle.

I shot this on the kitchen window sill last night with natural light and used a blue file folder from work for the Background.

I learnt two new things when making this image. Firstly it is soooo hard to focus on the needle, I had it set stood up about 3 inches in front of the blue folder as I did not want the folder itself in focus. Secondly you would not believe how much dust was on the needle. Not visible to the eye but the first couple of shots were covered in dust, so I had to give it a good clean and try again. Even then i needed to clone out a few dust spots.

I decided to go for a really close crop and on seeing the resulting image I also rotated it to give a different angle.

Well i dont think this was what Hans was excpecting, so lets see what guntlet he throws down for tomorrows posting.

TTFN and thanks for taking the time to view my posting.

Kind regards Smurfie

Hi Smurfie,
Through the eye of the needle he....! You just escaped with an excellent posting, brilliant and origional idea! Lile the composition, excellent executed, although the needle becomes a tad blurry at the end (must be your poor camera :-) Anyway a well presenteed (almost) pin sharp image!
Hans

N.B.: The next two days I'm in the UK and not able to post for TL

wowwwwwwwww....

good detailed shot...

thanx for sharing....

Hello Helen,

thanks to your perfect macro shot.
with my ageing eyes i hardly can insert a thread into a needle eye like this.
a beautiful abstract in a diagonal position and nice colour too.

Hi Helen,

Nice close up here and funny to see this as a reaction on Hans' photograph :-). Nice.

Super macro Helen! I guess you did manual focusing to make sharp other part of the needle. Nicely composed and well framed.

This is a really nice macro shot! Well done, good angle and very sharp. Did you use a tripod for this shot? Very well done. I know that dust is everywhere this is one of the reason I find Macro photography so hard because of all the dust you need to clean up for a good shot.. I got tired of cleaning :-)

Helen Hi, my friend:
Your experimental macro and wonderful educational note are impressive.
Learning can occur everyday on TL if one tries to locate the message.

Congratulations on a crystal clear and tack sharp (thanks to RSK for that one) image.
Very well done.

Hi Smurfie,
WOW you got a good macro here, the sharpness at the bottom of the eye is perfect though the rest is slightly off, maybe you could have tried a slightly higher f number or more focus points, still good and well composed.
Well done
Regards Andy

hello Helen,
a good technical challenge well met. I think you have done a very good shop with the focus and composition.Interested to read your note too about your trials and tribulation in obtaining this.

Hi, Helen -
Great experiment with an interesting result. I like the orientation of the needle perfectly diagonally in the frame. The tiny details and reflections are superb. Maybe a camel could make it through there ...

Great work Helen... lovely sharp detail.

Regards Mark :)

Very simple but extremly keen and efective Helen.
It so damn sharp and the frame is really tastefully chosen with the subject.

Hi Helen,
Congratulation,very good macro,beautiful photo.
Best regards,
Ralf

Superb close up Helen!!!
Good b/g as well as most precise detail and sharpness.
I see the macro lens did the job well (more than well I would say).

I thought of getting a macro lens, but more of a Tamron 90mm or Tokina 100mm, but both are quite expensive to be used once in a while.

Decided to get a macro extension tube, which is about 1/4th of a macro lens price.
The tube will arrive on monday thus can do some testing, and hopefully post my work on TL.

Thomas

Hello Helen,what an amazing macro!
Your notes make interesting reading; I can't believe that you would have dust visible on the needle!
The blue certainly makes a good bg colour.I like the angle of the needle in the composition too.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hi
I like your makros, very much. This one is quintessence of simplicity and purity.
