Hello everyone, 'between the showers' just sums up the English summer this year.
We had had very heavy rain in the morning, so after lunch, we decided to visit Cragside. If it rained again it wouldn't matter as we would be enjoying the rooms inside the house.
As we left the house, the weather had improved, so we decided to explore the grounds and extensive gardens.
Cragside was the home of Lord Armstrong, a Victorian inventor and landscape genius.

The house was built on a rocky crag high above the Debdon Burn.It was the first house in the world lit by hydro-electricity.

'The variety and scale of Cragside's gardens are incredible.'

Surrounding the house on all sides is one of the largest 'hand-made' rock gardens in Europe.
Across the valley, the Orchard house still produces many varieties of fresh fruit.

The Italianate ornamental garden, seen here, with sunken ferneries and carpet bedding add to this crazy optimistic mixture.

As we completed our wander around the gardens, the clouds gathered once again,as can be seen in the distance.
Cragside is set in 1000 acres! So plenty of space to explore!

Terrific use of perspective and light in this excellent composition. I like the strong white forms and lines as accents to the soft greenery and blossoms. The cloudy sky looks like it could rain again:) Excellent shot.

Jean Hi:

Nice work managing the high whites against the rest of the image and maintaining detail in the shadows.
Good point of view and perspective too.
