Some dead poppy heads taken from a distance and cropped narrower. I loved the subdued mood created by the colours of the background so i am sure it looks like a sad picture.
Take a closer look at familiar plants, flowers growing in the average back garden, or anything you can buy in a simple flower shop, and you'll discover new dimensions of beauty. Fascinating detail can be captured easily with the use of a macro lens that allows you to focus up closely and produce almost life-size images.
What I look out for first, is an attractive plant or flower positioned in such a way so that I can get close to it, walk around it and choose effective viewpoints from various angles, high and low. The goal is to highlight interesting details unique to that plant and if possible from an angle not previously explored by others.Shooting through foliage with lots of out-of-focus background and foreground can be a good way of focusing on your sharp subject, especially if the foliage is colourful. Try to find a ‘hole’ to peep through and if you’re using a digital camera you can take loads of snaps and see what works. |

Hello Sue,
I enjoy walking along the hedgerows as autmn advances to spot intersting seedheads and I like unusual poppy seedhead. The hairy bits at the base of its stem are new to me. Perhaps I should look more closely or perhaps it is just this variety of poppy. I like the muted colours and the out of focus seedhrd behind. Very nice.

Bev
Sue,
Very nice scene, with a depth of field which perfectly suits the composition. Nice detail and colour tones, with a frame colour choice which certainly enhances the the mood of the shot.
Very painterly.
Regards
Colin
Hi Sue
Really nice muted colours. Love the shape and detail of the foreground seed head, echoed by the blurry one in the background.
Cheers.
