Tiger facts from the BBC

Panthera tigris
The tiger is the largest of all the cats. Sadly, this magnificent animal has been hunted by humans and has lost much of its habitat. Three of the eight subspecies have already become extinct, and other populations are also at high risk.

Subspecies
P.t.altaica, P.t.amoyensis, P.t.corbetti, P.t.sumatrae, P.t.tigris. Other subspecies are extinct.

Life span
Tigers live for 8-10 years in the wild and 26 years in captivity.

Statistics
Body length: 140-280cm, Tail length: 60-110cm, Shoulder height: 80-110cm, Weight: Male: 180-280kg, Female: 115-185kg.

Physical description
Tigers are the largest of the cat family, with the Siberian tiger being the largest of the species. They are easily recognisable, with thick black vertical stripes covering an orange body. The belly and throat are a creamy white.

Male tigers have a ruff around the back of the head, which is especially pronounced in the Sumatran male.

No two tigers have the same stripe pattern - each is unique, like human fingerprints. Tiger stripe patterns commonly differ between the two sides of an individual's body.

Hi Karan,
I agree on 'cute' and 'cat', but I don't think this mighty animal would like to be called a 'pussy cat' ;) Excellent picture! Great colours, details and POV. A charming portrait :) Well done, congrats!

Excellent portrait image.

Great close up - well saturated colours, sharp details and a super connection with the eyes. Still, not the sort of cat to lie next to you on the sofa and have it's back scratched!
Quality of the details in the fur just shouted out "try b&w" to me, so I hope you don't mind but I've created a quick ws
Thanks for sharing

Hi Karan,
Awesome details and sharpness. The eye-contact is really a big impact. Cute? yes of course...

Salute to you for the courage to make the risky shot. You wrote "I did have to sign a form saying I wouldn't sue them if I lost a limb" - surely means something dangerous!. But then, the result is great. So it really had been paid-off.

Have a nice day,
Ramdan.

Wonderful portrait of this tiger. great crop. beautiful colours and sharpness.
greetings,

figen

As a kid, i had a facination for tigers, to me they are the truly king, the ultimate cat. Now that i'm grown up, everytime i see a picture of those beautiful beast, i always wonder about their survival on this earth.

Now about the shot....))) Great macro. Nice details and ultra sharp focus. Love the tight crop et specially well expose. Good colour rendition. Once again well done.

the second shot I missed is this excellent portrait, the sharpness is perfect, a great close up !
