[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi
Came across this while we were out on a patrolthe other day.

I liked the way the moss hugged to the top of the post - completely carpeting it in it's greeniness! :)

There are nearly 900 different species of mosses in Britain. They are one of the first species to colonise bare ground after the removal of rhododendrons and are important for micro-habitats for various invertebrates.

PP - Cropped slightly, sharpened, adjusted colours, changed to B&W, added a blue colour filter then resaturated the moss. Frame and text added then resized for tl.

Thanks for looking

Cheers
Linzi

Great idea for colour popping Linzi, this works very well. Superb detail in the moss and a good POV.

Regards Mark :)

Linzi,
As Mark says, superb detail on the "cushion". I don't want to harp on (and on and on and on) about the desaturation thing - but I wonder if there isn't a way of drawing attention to the cushion whilst retaining a "realistic" look to the rest of the photograph. Hard to say without seeing the original, but perhaps you could try just slightly desaturating the rest of the shot so that it all looks "real" - at yet the cushion still stands out. Just a thought.

Regards
Colin

Really nice work Linzi, the moss completely standout against the background. I like your POV here showing the moss trying to survive and find the right place on the top of the post. The photo tells something a message if we think about it. Well captured.

Hi Linzi,
Likewise,I was interested in viewing your work, and this, your latest, appealed to me,being the nature freak I am.
The POV is great, and the DOF is not bad.
Changing the BG to monochrome does work to isolate the moss, but I thin, personally,as a naturalist,I have a bias towards seeing nature exactly as it is.
In my last post of a Kea on TN,I was critcised for turning the grey rocks green.
The comment was justified,as I took too much blue out and kind of spoiled the shot.
Why ... I don't like grey. Silly isn't it ?
I think its because it reminds me too much of concrete and grey suits LOL
Still,a great image though.
I like the little sporangia (looks like a tiny pointy mushroom) in the centre of the post.
Cheers
Steve

I like the way the well saturated greens pop out against the desaturated background - with a fully coloured picture the moss wouldn't get the attention that you've now created. Good idea and good PP work
Thanks for sharing

Bonjour Linzi,

Just last week, I was wondering how to take such a picture, letting only one part of the photo in color. I am not sure if I could ever do it as well as you did, but I will definitely try it soon. Thanks a lot for your note which is very helpful!

I also like the way you resized in square, it enlighten you POV.

Damien.

Hi Linzi. Nice shot great use of monochrome to emphasis main subject and excellent accompanying Photographers notes. Thanks for sharing.

Regards Phil.

Hello Linzi
Greta art, the contrast between the B&W and the mosse.
I like the way how you catch or capt the nature.
