Taken from the Golden Gallery above the dome of St Pauls Cathedral looking down on top the bell towers with the dome in the foreground.
The Golden Gallery is 280 feet (85.4m) from the ground, some 530 steps from the ground floor. When we were at the top I was speaking to the guide who walks up these stairs at least twice a day.

Gorgeous POV and well balanced composition Derek. perfect for the theme.

Hello Derek,

This is a fabulous view.
I remember the impact it had on me when I went up there as a teenager!
The two upright clock towers funnel the eyes nicely towards the road.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi,

This is a really great POV Derek. You have captured many fine details of this landmark location that are not normally seen, unless has one been there. I am very impressed with it and think your composition and crop is really good. Excellent.
Warm Regards
Wanda

Hello, Derek.

A fabulous shot!

I really don't like heights at all and this one makes me giddy just looking at it! But this is wonderful - the colours, depth-of-field and sharpness are just superb and, of course, the presence of part of the dome in the foreground (just where I can feel my feet standing) adds to the tremendous feeling of depth and height.

An interesting and informative note too!

Now, I just wonder if you will manage to achieve quite the same depth-of-field so easily with your new full-frame D700? I presume you will still be keeping the small-sensor camera? With Canons, many people who "graduate" up to the 5D (full-frame) still use a 20D, 30D or 40D for action and sports shots because of the extra "apparent" length a telephoto lens achieves and because of the extra speed of the small-sensor camera. Speed might not, I suspect, be a problem at all with a camera as new as the D700. Incidentally, I see that Canon are about to bring out a 5D MarkII, presumably in response to Nikon's D700!

Great shot, Derek!

Best Wishes,

John.

Hello Derek, in all the times I have been to London, I have never visited St.Pauls.
Thanks for this fabulous view.
I like the symmetry of your composition, with the two towers placed just so; they contrast well with the curving streets that surround the church.
Excellent sharp quality.
Regards Jean.

Stunning photo Derek! Outstanding post, love the off kilter twist here, the lines and the smoothness is perfect. Looks outstanding, this deserves alot more attention that it has gotten! Really looks like HDR, did you do that for this shot? I love this one!
