The millions of animals, including horses, which have been killed in conflict while serving their country, are being remembered with a major memorial in London.
The Animals in War Memorial is situated at Brook Gate, Park Lane, on the edge of London's Hyde Park and was unveiled by Princess Anne on November 24th 2004.

The sculpture by leading English sculptor David Backhouse depicts all the animals that have been used by troops in wartime, from horses and mules to dogs, elephants, camels, canaries and even glow worms.
A curved Portland stone wall symbolizes the arena of war, with the animals depicted on it in bas-relief. Two life-size heavily laden bronze mules struggle up the steps towards a gap in the wall. Beyond the gap a bronze horse and dog (see workshop) gaze into the distance.

The monument has been described as an "overdue tribute to the millions of conscripted animals that died in war."

Hello Tsilla,
Thank you for bringing this memorial to our attention. it is important that so many of these selfless creatures be remembered. A wonderful presentation here.
The charity, Brooks Animal Hospital was started in Egypt after WW2 to care for all the abandoned horses left by the English army. Thank goodness the army cavalry is now machines and tanks and not horses.
Have a good weekend, Joni

Lovely tribute to the animals. And excellent composition. However, the title combined with the animals in picture may offend the touchy
