Flaming Flamingos (i)

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Much as I would like to pretend I phographed these handsome birds in the wild, in the Okavango Delta in Africa, I did not.
They are tame flamingos at Coton Manor Gardens, near Northampton. There is a small flock of 5 birds that wander round the lawns, and pose most obligingly for photographs. Three are a very pale salmon pink, and two, which seem to keep themselves to themselves, away from the others are a vivid organge/pink colour.
It was mid afternoon when I was there so the light was very contrasty and harsh. Most of what I shot was no good because of there was an exposure difference of about 4 stops accross their bodies, depending on how they turned to the sun. This resulted in harsh, unsightly, shadows. Some close ups were OK though, and made it worth the effort.
In Photoshop I have cropped, adjusted levels, and shadows/highlights ,and darkened the background to make the subject stand out. Framed in Photofiltre, and resized and sharpened with BDsizer |
