It immediately reminded me to the John Ford's movie "How Green Was My Valley"... :-)
Well balanced, great composition for an unforgettable landscape.

Hi Derek,
Splendid, clear landscape, perectly caught moment at these awsme light conditions. You used the available light very well and this resulted beautiful natural colours. Sharp and clear image, TFS!
Best wishes,
Kristof
Hello, Derek.
Just wonderful!
The more I get into this photography lark, the more I realise that lighting is really what it's all about. I suppose that's pretty obvious really, but what I mean is the direction of the light, the subtelties of the light and the colour/temperature of the light. Lighting, of course, also gives an apparent depth to an image which would otherwise appear just flat.
In this picture, you have captured the light perfectly and, of course, you have taken it just at the right time of day. I don't believe that that is a "fluke" but rather the result of hard work, planning and waiting for the right moment, as well as excellent camera and processing skills.
So, yes, you deserve top points for this one, Derek.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. Do you find that the full-frame sensor is a great boon or do you think you could have captured this just as well with your previous camera?
P.P.S. I have now just (silly me) realised that you have used HDR software for this one. And I must compliment you on that too - so often HDR images are totally "overcooked" to the extent that they look totally unnatural but this does not. Very well done!

Well composed image Derek, the light is perfect.
Great use of HDR too, really brought out the detail in the sky.
Nice one

Nice sweeeping view, and excellent naturalistic use of HDR. The combination of good exposure technique and good PP work has captured the subtleties of the lighting very well.
Not sure about the frame though. It is so narrow that I don't think it adds anything. I'm all for frames personally, but beleive you either need to make a feature of them, or leave them off.

Beautiful landscape, rich details and good colors. And it has the strong light effect given by the HDR technique.

Tibi

How do you find D700 so far?
D700 sensor is impressive, and mostly the high ISO that really allows more flexibility in shooting wildlife action on fast shutter.
