Good morning peeps

I really struggled to find a shot this morning for the theme, then I spotted this one that I took on Sunday at Warwick.

This is "York" a 13 week old Harris Hawk. When we went out with the falconer he was amazing at explaining to us exactly how she is trained and that she was actually looking at us as the prey. To start with she would fly off to the trees and fly back to the glove when she saw the food. After a short while she got clever and would start to leave the tree as soon as she saw the falconer put the meat on our glove for her.. then she started to get lazy and didn't actually fly to the glove, she would leave the tree silently and simply glide down towards us tipping her wings at the last possible moment to get enough updraft to lift her to the glove.. like any predator the minimum amount of excertion was just what she wanted.
This is a shot taken as she swooped down under the level of the glove, eyes fixed firmly on the target.. awesome isnt she!

Not the best quality shot as the glove is well out of focus and normally I wouldnt post a shot like this. I did think it suitable for the theme though and to show exactly how she behaved, so I hope you will forgive me this time.

I also decided not to not to use my big lens when we were out flying her as its way to cumbersom to handle and hold when trying to lure the hawk with the other hand.

TTFN and thanks for the visit. More shots of "York" to follow later in the week.

regards Helen

Hi Helen,
The hawk is in sharp focus, that's all that's needed. If the glove was sharp too, it would be distracting.
I think you did a great job, well done.
Pete.

Hi Helen
Very good action shot here. The focus on the bird it really well done.
And even thought the blurred tassel from the glove shows, it actually gives us a good idea of what it is there for.

Wonderful timing here, Helen
Superb sharpness on the hawk and very well-handled light
It would have been nice not to have the jesses from the glove covering the wing, but with this shot, timing was everything
Fine posting

Nice catch on this moving Hawk Helen! Not an easy task! I think the glove gives reference, even though the tassel is distracting, we get the idea of what he is doing. They do tend to SWOOP up! Nice work!

Hi Helen,
Greta shot, the bird is the main subject and is good and sharp, I think the glove should be out of focus, it's a shame about the tassle from the glove haging down but the composition and details make up for that.
Well done
Regards ANdy

Hi Helen,
Great pov the bird is stunning you can see from its eyes that its concentrating on the lure or heaven help you. Well done the colours are great and very sharp, not counting the glove, tfs.
Jon

clarity is exceptional. good colors
like the way you included the glove to give a great DOF.
well done. kudos.

Helen I'll try and not repeat what's been siad ..lol
Interesting you feel the glove is in the way, I think it adds to the impact of this photo, as it tells me that this is a bird in training, and helps expalin why it has a tether on its legs.
Your main subject, sharp detail, POV helps one see how low to the ground it had gone.

Hello Helen.
Fantastic sharp Falcon.
Pity of the unsharp 'things in it. If it was only in the green grass, it should have been easy to clone out.
Have a nice weekend.
Jan

A great contribution to the theme. Good composition with excellent moment and sharpness. Well done.
Best wishes,
Achim

Slendid capture Helen, nothing to be ashamed of in this compo , i certainly like the angle here truly unusual , you got her right on focus and you'll be forgiven for presenting this one with the glove blurred for i think the target has to be shown one way or another blurred , crisp or somewhere in between cause that's what the bird is going for: the meat, what a day you must have had , i envy you so much ! Enjoyed your notes too and an excellent theme picture ,
TFS ,
Carol

I agree with Pete Helen, even though the glove is not in focus it adds an anchor point. Good colour and detail and the bird just enough of centre (or seemingly so),
David
