Hi
Was delighted to capture this guy on Sunday at the Ayrshire Red Squirrel Association walk in South Ayrshire. It would have been alot sharper with a tripod but there was no time!

From the 4th - 12th October is national Red Squirrel week and they are a protected species under the Ayrshire and Arran Local Biodiversity Action Plan with special protection under Schedule 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Scotland has 75% of the population with Dumfries and Galloway being the most popular habitat choice. These little guys are declining in numbers due to the transference of a pox virus from the greys (who are immune), loss of habitat and simple competition for food with the greys.

If you see one in Ayrshire please report the sighting to Ayrshire Red Squirrel Association (http://www.ayrshireredsquirrels.org.uk). There are other websites for other areas of the UK.

PP - Slight crop and levels adjusted. Thats it!

Thanks for looking

Cheers
Linzi

Hi Linzi,
This is a lovely capture the colours are nice and sharp, IMHO. Great composition and the red squirrel is a much nicer animal than its grey counterpart. Well done and tfs.
Jon

Hi Linzi

Great capture of the quick little critter. I see them often here in Dundee where quite a bit is done to make sure they continue to survive. Its good great to see another red squirerel enthusiast!

Best Regards

Craig
