Good Morning Everyone,

We have had more butterflies in the garden this year than for the last two years.

My husband and I planted a new buddleia, some sedum and a small patch of wild flowers. I would like to think that that has had some effect on the the increase.

Anyway, this is a Painted Lady enjoying the nectar from the irresistible buddleia. At one time there were five of these attractive butterflies on one plant. I have not seen them on the sedum which seems to be the preferred flower of the Peacock and the Red Admiral.

It occurred to me, how well would we be able to feed hanging upside down!

Please look at the connection here as it kept coming into my mind as I photographed this butterfly! Does it work for you?

Have a good day.
Many thanks for your interest.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph. Bev :-)

Dear Bev'
The point of view and dof are both good here
The color management done professional, with a nice bokeh in background
Just seems noise on background need to remove...
Thank you

Hi Beverley

Very good warm cold colour contrasts, between the orange butterfly & the violet blue flower petals with superb use of a shallow dof & good sharpness & framing. Tfs!

I don’t know the name of the blue flower plant but we call it the butterfly catcher.
I have one in my garden and it works very well. I works for you to I can see

Hi Bev :)

Lovely capture of my favorite 'Painted Lady'! :)
The POV and sharpness are at their best and the colors are well shown. The color contrast between the buddleia flowers and the butterfly, is amazing! The DOF is nicely controlled. Except the BG noise, everything seems to be on its right place. Well done!

best regards,
Paras

hello Bev,
another fine butterfly picture. This Painted Lady is beautifully displayed with nice light and colours. The green bokeh shows her off well too. Another easy plant yoy may like to try for butterflies is Verbena Bonsaris (tall verbena). Although tall it takes up little space.See here

Hey Beverley,

For starters, our swallow function works just fine upside down. Your body doesn't rely upon gravity to swallow, rather a series of muscles lining the esophagus.

Secondly, your image is an easy fix. Just rotate it 180°! ;-)

This is a lovely macro. The colors just jump off my screen and the afternoon sun bathes the butterfly's wings in light.

You DOF is just about perfect with the entire body and wing structure of the butterfly in sharp focus. I think a little more depth would work in keeping the rest of the flower in focus, but really that's a very minor suggestion.

Great work!

This just JUMPS off the page! Marvelous work Bev! The colors orange and purple always look SO nice together! Your saturation is super!
