Hi Bev,
Awesome shot - The remnants of this old building have provided you with a great photo opportunity. I like the way the mid-day light 'bounces' off the sepia-like bricks. The grey clouds seem to be taking over the blue sky too, which suits the scene well. Looks great from where I'm sitting.
TFS,
Scott.

Hi Beverley
A superb capture of the ruins, which at first glance, could be mistaken for Mesopotamia, Egypt or Central America. Superb sharpness, colour & lighting contrasts, with a good pov & an informative note. Tfs!

Hi Bev,
I think the autumnal colours of the trees are a nice back-drop to the drab ruins. The pov is great and the details are sharp I like the shades and tones caused by the cloudy sky well done.

Hello Beverley,
a lovely shot of these ruins. One of those shots where you can imagine actually being there!
Beautiful colours with the trees just beginning to show signs of autumn. That touch of blue sky lifts the mood.
Lots to see with the different shapes of stone and building features.
Good framing that complements the scene.
Regards Jean.
Hello Bev,
It is interesting that Netflix has just delivered a DVD film version of Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre'. I shall watch it tonight and will try to imagine Wycoller Hall during its heyday. Your exif data show that it was taken after high noon, but your meticulous composition took full advantage of the exposure situation. A fine posting. Wishing you well.

Hi Beverley,
Up into the imagined world of fiction. A cloud is also a little help here. Special atmosphere. TFS.

Hi Bev,
Nice shot, kind of looking sad and forlorn. I think it would have been better if you zoomed out, showing a bit of the background.

dear Beverley,
Bronte sisters are so great, I love "Wuthering Heights" by Emily from my young age.
anyway, this broken stone "Hall" is very tasteful,
it looks holding its gracefulness even now, and surrounding wood matches this atmosphere very well.
your lighting and colours shows me its timeless feeling nicely.
thank you,
Akihisa

Hi Bev
Bing there at the right time, the sunlight shows off the texture of the old and moldy bricks.
The clouds add to make the shot a bit moody.
TFS a bit of history. I wish I could count the many wonderful hours I spent reading the Bronte sister's books.

Bonjour Beverley.
Belle présentation de ces ruines dans son environnement aux couleurs de circonstance.
La chaleur qui se dégage de l’image met bien en valeur l’atmosphère automnale.
Bonne journée.

Hi Beverley,
such an intese colour. You have exploited the incoming light so beautifully. The texture of the walls and the beauty of the autumnal leaves are indeed very pretty.
The notes too is very educational and useful reference.

I love it - more old English ruins. How nice to see, and the ruins show up so well. And to read the history of the place too. I did enjoy reading those Bronte books.
Thanks Bev for sharing

Hey Beverley,
OK, I'll be the first one to buck the trend. You asked for critiques, no?
I don't really find this image particularly interesting. Technically, it's spot on. The light is good, the focus is good, and the DOF is good. It just doesn't jump out at me.
This image seems to be conflicted on whether it wants to be part of a sweeping landscape or architectural study. You almost seem to be stuck in some middle ground between the two.
I haven't been to Wycoller, but I imagine that ruins like this are not an infrequent sight. There doesn't seem to be anything unique to note in this once grand hall.
Even the description seems a bit contrived to me. This is a place several miles away from the Bronte home where they may have had a look around and used bits of it in a book (admittedly, I'm not a Bronte fan, but I don't think that would be of note even if it were from one of my favorite authors either).
Maybe a closer view of something of note in the ruins or, if possible, a wider view of the ruin in its landscape would help.
I must say, though, I am amazed at the quality of light in this image taken at noon. Being down here in Texas, we don't get to see light like this until very late in the day, even in winter.
I would love to see a second effort if you get back that way again.
I hope I haven't come off too negative here. This is still a good photo, but I think there is more to this scene than you captured in this particular frame. Having seen your work on here before, I think that you have much stronger images in your library.
Thanks for sharing,
skot
