[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Central Arcade, Newcastle upon Tyne has frontages on Grainger Street, Grey Street and Market Street, all dating from c1840 designed by Walker and Wardle for Richard Grainger who built it, Exchange Buildings was originally designed as a commercial exchange and newsroom but in 1869 the exchange was converted into an art gallery. After a devastating fire it was rebuilt in 1906 and the Central Arcade was opened with entrances on all three sides of the triangle. Below the glass barrel-vaulted roof all is glistening Burmantofts ceramics in shades of browns, buffs and yellows: huge panels, little niches, grotesque animal heads and elegant lettering abound. The mosaic tiled floor in shades of blue with brown and buff pattern is beautiful.

PP Work, caught on a quiet day in early December two years ago, brightened saturated and adjusted curves, skewed to bring the perspective level, added simple frame and resized for TL

I hope you like one of Newcastle's finest....

Hi Bri!

I've been waiting on this. I bet this is a really cool place during the Christmas holidays. I was looking at the arched roof supports while moving the mouse roller up and down and it looked like moving marquee lights. I guess it doesn't take much to entertain the simple minded like me.:)

Very interesting note! Thanks for sharing the detailed history! Great composition and DOF!

A delightful subject and capture. It is full of interesting details to take in, and it holds a bright kind of energy...as if anticipating the holidays. There seems to be an interesting subtle texture throughout, which reminds me of prints on rich papers...a lovely feel. Well seen and presented!

What a cool shot, Bri!!
I love the perspective and the way the lines lead in... GREAT graphics, good detail, fine clear color... I love those Greek key inlays along the edges of the floor. REALLY good light management with it coming in from overhead. Well done! Many thanks and kind regards,
Shelly

Hoi Brian,
In The Hague there is a building with the same architecture. Funny, that must be from the same time-period I guess.
Good note with your symmetric and colorful photo. I like the details and the fact that there are not too much people walking around. Can you sent me those shoes please, in black. :-)
