I took this shot this morning of a Bee which I saw entering a flower.I adjusted the settings and in macro mode I waited for it to exit the flower. It climbed up the stamen and headed straight for the lens.
I never knew they had such fearsome looking jaws!
Photo cropped,sharpened edges.

This is an amazing shot!
The DOF really cuts the bee into focus and the flower makes for an excelent background.
I would probably have worked a bit more on the saturation of the bee's colours, against the background, to detach it even more.
Kudos

Great detail, Andy, and beautiful shot. First time I see the mandibles as close and sharp. For loving macroshots, I realize how difficult it is to achieve such a good document. Your strategy was efficient, and the timing perfect. Impressive image. Just regret the overall blue tone on the bee, but I guess it was the flower transparency.

hi Andy :) lovely shot and it really looks scary...and looking at you with his hundreds of eyes in one :)..sharp as usual...
I learned last weekend macro is a difficult job (I shot the snail I posted and some others)...first of all my neck is stiff now :)..second is you are always open to danger from other insects..I found a very big spider climbing up my leg and was really scared...third is your friends really think you are nuts doing this for an hour in the bushes instead of enjoying a picnic...
very nice outcome..thanks :)

Oh, Andy, this is really awesome, as are all you macros.
This is really an exceptional shot, as the detail is outstanding, especially that of the bees mouth, a superb shot, with magnificent results.
Well done, keep up the good work!

You certainly shine with your Macro shots! What a sensational vantage point. I am trying to improve my macro images and photos of this caliber continue to inspire me.

quite an impressive shot here, it wants to get out off the picture !! Superb Macro Andy.

This is a stunning shot. The DOF is very good. But like Deus I would have liked to see the bee stand out a little more. Awsome macro.

Wow, what a wonderful image! Beautiful colours, and the composition is just perfect! Yes, the jaws are really look dangerous, now I do not understand why they use their stings, which is actually fatal action for them... I like the pollen on his head. All in all excellent!

Great shot..well done.

Woa. Nice !! Would be my dream to catch an instant like that :)

A great photo from a great idea, catching the bee on exit from a flower. Maybe lowering the blue level a tad might help the image (the flower is nice as a purple-blue, but it is being cast onto the bee too)

Hello Andy, wow, this image gives me the impression of a freezing, last Sunday I was behind a bee for a good time and I realized that truly they are indefatigable, they don't stop! .. you suspended the bee for an instant paralyzing in a special way their great energy and movement. The colors are fascinating, I like the combination and the details in this grandiose and deep image. This image really has the capacity to introduce me in the flower and to become of the size of a bee to have an encounter face to face. The details in zigzag of their mouth are impressive and wow that eyes of the bee. Andy: would I like to know to what it distances approximate you took this picture?

Great picture Andy. I like the DOF and as you said, the fearsome jaws ! I would maybe lighten it a little bit and also add a few contrast. Great shot.

Fantastic!!!! I cannot say anything more that just that it is an excelent macro work! The blue/purple colour creates a very dramatic mood to the image, especially with the two large eyes looking at meeee-e-e-e-e....

OK, let me buzzzz off.
