another shot of the Elean Donan Castle, albeit a coloured one. Same one as the B&W version. The film Highlander was shot here.
Photo is slightly cropped. Auto level, auto contrast and sharpening in PSE3.

I like the composition a lot, there are 6 distinctive horizontal layers in the front of the castle, so the foreground is really interesting, giving depth to the photo, as well. The refelection of the castle in the water is very good, too. The sky is like you would expect it from Scotland, adding a bit of a sombre atmosphere to the photo...
Still, maybe you could even make it look better, I am not saying that you should make it look bright and colourful, but instead of Auto level, try adjusting levels on your own, I'd like the photo a tiny little bit brighter in the foreground (but the sky mustn't be brighter!), then I think the photo lacks the special sharpness you would associate with a Canon L class lens. When you do unsharp mask, do it as the last step, on the resized version you'll want a radius like 0.1 to 0.4, as there is so much detail in here, then raise the amount until you see white halos (sharpening artefacts)...
Anyway - I like this photo a lot!
Frank

P.S. I did a quick workshop, maybe you like it.

Great composition and beautiful colours.
I wish I could visit this place.
Scotland always attracted me.

oh Elean Donan Castle is one of my favourite places in the world... always wanted to visit but unfortunately even after 17 years in great britain i never got further north than Hadrians Wall... so it's always a big treat for me to see beautiful pictures like this that make me dream of the wonderful places :-)

i agree with Frank that the varied tones and textures of the horizontal layers in the foreground add a really special and different touch to this composition which is really lovely.. thanks for sharing this Edwin!

take care,
Ayda

Hallo Edwin
Mooie prent hier! Schotland...

Yes, I prefer this one. The composition is excellent with all these horizontal layers of different textures and colours. Scotland is one of my favorite destinations : this country is beautiful and the lightning is amazing there :)
Take care,
Martine
