[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
this is one of several long exposures i took from a bridge over the m53 motorway on the wirral, near clatterbridge hospital, after the evening rush hour had finished at around 8pm. no tripod so i rested the camera on the handrail of the bridge.

cropped the sky, framed, resized, sharpened.

30 seconds at f13, iso 400, 18mm.

UPDATE
the colour of the sky is from the street lights of the wirral reflecting off low clouds, just in case anyone thinks i missed a lovely sunset to get this shot!

Awesome composition leading into the photo. The colors are great also. Most shots I have seen like this are in complete darkness the lights reflecting into the sky really add to this photo.

Great composition and colours.
Congratulations

Wow, Great 30 seconds exposure with perfect colors sunset !!!
Actually, i'm quite jealous ; ) ...

Gday Sean
Fantastic work you have well without a tripod over such a long exposure. I like the colours and thw bend in the road which draws the eye through and out of the picture

Well Done

Great shot Sean! These long exposure shots are usually very interesting, but people sometimes forget the composition and manage the light. I am glad that you didn't forget those things and made very good photo. Composition is great (although it better when lines are going from the corners) and the sunset colors are amazing! Great job done!

Regards
Robert

P.S. Sorry, I'm out of smileys... :(

Very nice light lines. Bravo

follow that car!!!
very very nice picture...
I like colours and compo....

I can't resist commenting on these long exposure traffic shots, even when all I can say is 'wow!'

Although I like the differnce you make by shooting with a sky that's not completely dark. Is it natural light or citylight reflections on clouds?

Marcel

OOPS, sorry... I have to learn to read before asking questions here :)

wow very very cool. 30 seconds is great because it allows for such long streaks. well done.

Alrite mate.

this is good, i do like the sence of speed (many a time i have gone through this strech of M-way lol). also the sharpness obtained without a tripod is brill for such along exposure ( you can even tell how man tall lorries went past (5) haha ) well done.

Ron

Hi Sean,
what a fantastic effect you got here! The silhouettes of the trees and the colour of the sky are just superb!
congr!

What a good night shot. I must try this one day. Good results Sean. TFS.

The light-lines are a good "incoming-line" (?) (in Dutch "invoerende lijn) which leads your eyes through the picture. Good pov and nice colours.

Don

wow I'm in love with this one :) amazing composition!!

hi sean! .-)
i see you have some great
"light shows", too.
i really like the light-stripes
and the red sky. wonderful!
this gives me the idea of trying
it out myself as i have a motorway right nearby.
well done,
thor.

very good
good photo and color

A gorgeous night shot. The stretches of light draw your eye into the distance and the color of the sky is a beautiful deep orange-red. Hard to believe you didn't got such a sharp shot with the camera on a handrail.

Perfectly executed! The colors are fantastic. Very well done.

Nice shot. Resting the camera on the handrail? Risky? Hopefully the handrail is wide :-)

Nice shot and thanks for the note, I think I will try this at home...

Hello Sean

That's a fantastic shot! I love the light trails from the cars passing the motorway! It's like light snakes! :)

Excellent work. TFS.

Though streaking light shots have been done to death by photographers all over the world, you image is different because of two things - one the curve on the road and two, the sky. You selected a good time for the shot.

Great shot! exposure perfect. Can't make up my mind wether or not to clone out the blue motorway sign.
In or out its still 10/10 for me

Perfect composition, magical light and the movement...Definitely a winner!

Excellent shot! I like the fact that no cars are visible - only the light trails... And the color of the sky is out of this world!

Great shot. I like the composition, colours and cropping.

Holly Cow what a great photo, great timing

Sean,

what an incredible result- it looks surreal I'm just starting to play with long exposure and hope to get some decent shots.
tfs.

Hi Sean!
This is great! You successfully mixed the static atmosphere of the sunset with the moving vehicles. The cropping work was also very good!
Congrats,
Miklos

Have just come across this. Great image. A sweeping to highly focussed curved perspective that provides great rhythm. Well contrasted with the static trees. And of course the evening sky is a spectacular colour that compliments the red tail-lights.
John

This is truely marvellous...simply the best....sigh...i'm speachless...can't comment anything....it's too good.

Hi Sean,
What a brilliant shot! Very well done, and with no tripod!
Congratulations

A nice photo.
Great capture of the lights.

Your photo has inspired me so much that I've decided to buy a remote switch for my cam.

Well done.
TL.

Very interesting photo. The colours are amazingly nice. Florecent feel. Only UK and Malta can capture the red and white colours in this formation. The rest of the world will capture this kind of shot with the white on left and red on the right side.
Very nice and effective.

Well done I like this very much! Lately I attempted the same shot on the M6 but the result is not as good as yours due to faster shutter speed. You can check it out in my pictures.
Well done for this!
Ed

well, I guess I knew in UK you drive on the wrong side... but I didn't know your work. thanks for all

Hi Sean,

This is a classical technique, but your rendition is special for both the name of the posting and your note.

I like the colours and saturation. Your choice of cropping and compo is very pleasing.

Dirk
