Very big wheel
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
It looks like a bike's wheel, but it is much much bigger. The London Eye is the biggest wheel in the world.
The main elements of the hub and spindle were manufactured in cast steel. The spindle was too large to cast as a single piece so instead was produced in eight smaller sections. Two further castings, in the form of great rings, form the main structural element of the hub.
The London Eye uses two types of cable, wheel cables and back stay cables. Wheel cables include 16 rim rotation cables, and 64 spoke cables, these are similar to bicycle spokes and stretch across the wheel. There are six backstay cables, which are located in the compression foundation.
In total, they used 1700 tons of steel.

Today I already rated a London-Eye, so I knew it wasn't a bike....
What a construction it is and what an interesting note, Yitzhak, "great" wheel !

Hey Itzik,
I decided to start posting here also. I like this shot of yours. I actually tought it was a bike wheel at first.
Looks like a sculpture or an imitation of the sun :)
I like the confusion created by the lines.
Nice decentered compo.
Great job!
