Salisbury Cathedral

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Salisbury Cathedral, set in the elegant splendour of the Cathedral Close, is one of the finest medieval buildings in Britain. The nave, quire and chapels were built in one phase between 1220 and 1258, with the spire (the tallest in Britain (123m/404ft) added a generation later. The Cathedral also houses the best preserved of only 4 original surviving Magna Carta (1215 AD) and Europe's oldest working clock (1386 AD).
It was famously painted by John Constable in 1823.
I have taken it from this angle as there was scaffolding throughout the length of this side and the trees were used as a mask.

Hi Michael,
This is very nice, it looks like a painting itself! It's well composed too and there is nice detail and colour in the architecture. I know what you mean about scaffolding - there always seems to be loads when you want to take pictures of churches, castles or cathedrals! You've masked it well though and the trees take nothing from the image - in fact, they enhance it. Well done! Best wishes, Vicky

Oh, Magnificent shot! WHat a perfect green cover all the shot here. I like it
Really nice photo, with excellent framing of th subject (the Cathedral, that is). POV is really great, and the cloudy sky offers the perfect background.
I don't know what happened to the colors but there is hardly any shadow details... a double exposure could have been better for this shot. I tried fixing some of it in a WS but you will most likely be able to do a better job with the original unedited file.
Perfect in every way Michael. Soft English colours and excellent detail. Interesting effects in the workshops too, TFS

Hi Michael,
very good shot of the cathedral. It shows majestic building very well blended into the surroundings. I like in your composition the leftmost tree which makes the photo lighter and more interesting. tfs
