Getting slight withdrawal symptoms not having an SLR but bit the bullet and went out with the ixus. Horrible day, cold and dreich (scots word meaning wet and dismal)

So had a walk round one of the Border's most photogenic towns (guess where) and took a couple of snaps.

Converted to black and white, using channel mixer in photoshop, adjusted levels, adjusted contrast and added a tone.

Hi Peter

Marvellous sepia tones, whic h enhance the 'aged' look, & superb use of diminishing linear perspective & vanishing point. Congratulations!

interesting shot in BW with sepia tones
first building on left could be more light (using light and shadow) but photo in general contest is valid

Hi Peter, I liked the composition and the PP work you did. I like the tone you choose, works well here.

Have a good day, Marie-José

J'aime la façon dont le chemin amène l'oeil vers cette maison blanche. Le choix du N/B se prête très bien.
J'aurais peut-être essayé de déboucher la masse sombre à la gauche de la photo afin d'obtenir un peu de détail.

I like the way the path guides the eye to the little white house. Good used of B/W. Maybe a little more detail in the dark zone on the left? Anyway, great shot!

I guess this is the way to portray that kind of scenery best, Peter. The overall atmosphere is exactly as you describe it and thatßs of course as it should be. But the sky is a tad too white. I wonder if you could have darkened that a bit.

The composition works well Peter. It would really be nice if you could tweak a little details out of the dark area on the left. B

Great image. Looks straight out of a Dickens novel.

Great PP work Peter, looks like a coalmine village. Good POV, elegant frame. TFS

Hi Peter, Good choice of B&W providing a timeless photograph of an ancient town. Excellent contrast, DOF and perspective. TFS, Paul.

Beautiful composition in B&W, contrast is good, can be one can of too on the left

Tone colour and contrast makes the photo.
But also the white line.
Just like it

Perhaps a little dark in the lower left but I like the overall composition, I hope your D200 arrives soon :)

Sure love those old brick buildings, your B&W make them look like an authentic 1800's postcard. Nice PP work, a very nice and rich B&W result. I felt like armchair travelling and exploring today and went looking for Hawick: http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/hawick/hawick/index.html
Thanks Peter,
Sam.

It sure feels cold here, with nobody on the street. They're all having a pint or a tea! Great compo. The double white lines lead to the white house. And the progression from black to white on the left side is great, a bit unusual as the light typically diminishes with the distance. Nice capture, Peter!

Hi Peter, Love the contrast of darker buildings against the white building in the distance it really pulls your eye into the shot. The botton left corner is dark, but I feel it helps pull your view into the shot and up to Russells Tea room... Nice.....
