[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the world famous Trash People exhibition by the German action artist HA Schult. The Trash People are life-size representations of people created from consumer refuse, like tin cans, metal containers, PC keyboards and so on. Tney have literally toured the world and have been at the La Grande Arche de la Défense in Paris and Moscow’s Red Square in 1999, the Great Wall of China in 2001, the Giza Pyramids in 2002, Switzerland’s Matterhorn in 2003, and many more amazing places!
I was in Cologne in April 2006 and he had a 1000-"man" show on the square outside the majestic Dom in the middle of the city.
It was a bit cloudy overhead but I think the trashies are so colourful that you can't really see it. I decided to close in on them rather than have a wide angle of all 1000, because that you can find on any website advertising the show.
What do you all think?

Wow

Hi Niel

Someone has a lot of time on their hands to do this. Very interesting though. Would love to see this in real live

I am glad you did not give us one that everyone else would have taken (the wide shot)

Thanx for sharing
Clint

Interesting exhibition, Niel. Your angle is good and the middle lines lead us into the photograph. However, I feel that if you had not cut off the sides of the first "persons" at the front of the rows the image would have been more striking. Then, maybe, you could also have gone tighter by cropping the top. What do you think?

Well, this takes the phrase "Trashy People" to a whole new level! I agree with not framing all 1000 men, and I quite like this angle. It adds some emphisis on the actual amount by showing how far back they reach.

Once again I would maybe have decreased the depth of field a bit. You can't really properly distinguish between the different rows. Also maybe getting in a bit closer could have added some detail to the picture.
Otherwise a good effort!

Hi Neal, very interesting idea to muse. Sculptures like these can be in all towns in the world.

Happy New Year 2007

Sehr interesantes Bild... aus Köln!

Quite a surreal pic this one, I like it a lot, the brownish coloured dude on the right reminds me of a Sea Devil from the old Doctor Who series, mind you it depends on what you watched on TV when you were growing up! This almost looks like a half and half B&W/Colour shot, personally I would have desaturated the entire top half to lose the slight green tones of the trees but that's just a personal choice. It may have added to the overall striking effect.
TFS,
Neil.
