[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Wearing dental braces no longer seems to be a reason for mockery at school. It is fast becoming a fashion statement and my niece Lotte (brothers daughter) has perfected it, by wearing different facebows for every occasion (like orange when an inportant football match is being played - or all different colours when she visits me).
We had a pile of schoolbooks to cover in fancy paper and after finishing that the film her brother and niece were watching was not yet ended, so we had some time to go outside for a few quick shots, because it was raining a bit (where has the sun gone?).

On her new highschool she is registered with her full name Charlotte, however I already told her for me she will always be Lotte - which is fine with her, as long as I help her with projects like prettying up her schoolbooks....

PP work slight gamma correction up and an extra bit of a correction on her eyes that were totally in the shade. Made the BG lighter in a seperate layer. Then only cropped and framed in the trial version of PhotoFiltre Studio.

.Bokeh - a word I sort of understood the meaning of, but not being english-speaking I looked it up for those who have the same problem - seems that it started to be widely used since 2000:
Bokeh (derived from Japanese bokeaji ボケ味, "blur") is a photographic term referring to the appearance of out-of-focus areas in an image produced by a camera lens using a shallow depth of field.[1] Different lens bokeh produces different aesthetic qualities in out-of-focus backgrounds, which are often used to reduce distractions and emphasize the primary subject.

Beautiful portrait.

Delicious portrait of your delicious niece!
Colored dental braces fit her sunny, hopefully expression, facing her future life that I wish will be coulourful, too.
Love her freckles, really! :-)

this is just wonderful! First of all - your capture is superb, nice and crisp with a fine bokeh :). the composition is excellent, with her pretty face nicely occupying 2/3 of the frame.
And finally -- I am delighted to see that the kids have found a way to turn a former negative into a positive ! When I was looking into hearing aids recently, I discovered that they now come in neon-bright colours - a fashion statement for those who want to play that game here too!

What kind of dental braces are these? I knew there are some that stick to the teeth :P

Wat een mens allemaal moet doorstaan voor een mooi gebit hé... Anderzijds, hoe perfect willen mensen toch zijn dat ze dat er voor over hebben?
Wel leuk dat ze het zich blijkbaar niet al te erg aantrekt, Els. En er door het "pimpen" zelfs de aandacht op trekt.
Een mooi portret, beetje kort bijgesneden wellicht... dit model is het waard om uitgebreider te worden gefotografeerd, waarbij haar hoofd en -vooral- haar haren er volledig opstaan. Wacht maar tot die beugel weg is. Maar dan zul je die vliegenmepper wel moeten zien te vermijden. (Die zal ze nodig hebben om zich de aanbidders van het lijf te slaan haha).
