...at macro photography.

I decided to buy Kenko extension rings instead of an expensive dedicated macro lens; using the 70-200 mm really works nice, though I'm not quite used to using the zoom ring for focusing. And yes, focusing is the hard part... the DoF is really shallow, and the viewfinder of the 350D is quite small; a combination that results in more than a few unsharp pictures.

Tech talk

For this picture I used a 36 mm extension ring.

Camera on tripod, used the IR remote control to trigger the shutter.

The sunlight was bright enough without being too harsh, so I didn't use a flash.

Cropped a lot, as the combination of wind, flowers and insects made an in-camera compo rather impossible.

Adjustment layer for curves to boost contrast and to darken the backdrop. Used the smudge tool here and there to get rid of little bits of bright leaves.

Downsized, framed and signed in PS.

hoog en kleurig bezoek !
ze kunnen zich niet allemaal
stilhouden!

Hoi Frank,
Keep on practising :-) Nevertheless a nice combination of a superb sharp fly against the blurre one but I'm not sure if it is a perfect composition. Although nice pink flowers add a nice detail to this image. Funny all the flowers look sharp, the only thing which isn't is the bottom insect. Your note is excellent my friend, great info!

Hi Frank,
A very different photo from you!
Excellent depth of field!
The green and pink colors is so appealing mix! I like their brightness.Nice agreement with the bee in top of the image, you could not nevertheless prevent the other from leaving when she wanted it! :) Bravo!
Annie

PS/ As Els said us, Happy Birthday to you!

ciao Frank..
an excellent combination of colours here.. sight is delicate and lovely!! good details indeed! many thanks
ciao Marco

PS Happy Birthday! ;))

Nice trying Frank,

Why not crop of the bee sitting below?
The quality looks good enough to do so.

To me it looks amazing, all bright, detailed and nice shallow DOF.

TFS
Els

Hi Frank

A superb macro of the 2 bees atop the pink flowers. Well composed, with good dof contrasts. Tfs!

Ola Frank,

Fantastic macro with beautiful colors and detail. Nice framework.

Very nice shot.

Greetings from Portugal,

Mário

Hi Frank,
Very nice macro shot, they're tough--especially with the extensions, for me anyway and that's why I don't do/haven't done many, let alone posted them--to get dead on.
I like the shot but also agree with some of the comments here, although, given the layout this is tough, I think, to crop much more to get the other bee out without ruining the overall comp of the image itself.
In keeping with that thinking I tried some stuff in WS to see if it could be modified to keep the eye on the sharp bee and demote the soft one.
See what you think.
Otherwise, TFS,
Wilt

" Zonde "

Zeer bezige bijtjes!
De opname is prima, mooi scherp en heel zachte natuurlijke kleuren.Fijn om naar tekijken!
groetjes,
Frieda.
