Hello Peeps

Last weekend I went with my dad to visit my uncle in Sussex who is a bit poorly just now. My uncle and Aunt have a beautiful garden but the weather was just dreadful. So I sat for a while in the kitchen and a pair of Magpies appeared on the lawn. This one certainly looked the worse for wear and really reminded me of a Vulture with the back of its head all naked.

I apologise that the conrast and sharpness is not as good as it might be here as it was tipping with rain and I shot this through a double glazed patio door. I loved the BG tones though and thought his lack of plumage was worth showing you all.

Hope you are having a good weekend

TTFN regards Smurfie

P.S. Actually I dont think my lens did badly at all here as I can see a spiders web spanning the line behind his feet.

Hi Helen
This is a lovely shot - great dof! Could the 'messiness' be due to it being a juvenile maybe ... a year or so - it looks quite small? Not sure but I see where you get the vulture thing from.
Nice blurry bg with nice tones as you say
Great composition and pov
nice shot
Cheers
Linzi

hello helen,
this is excellent given it was taken through a window and excellent even if it were not. You have a nice BG here and I like the compo with the diagonal line of the rotary drier. Bt most of all I love the detail that you have been able to capture of the birds feather (and lack of them). I can just see that web too.
best regards
Bev

hello Helen

This type of bird is also commonly found in Malaysia, although I have yet to frame one myself.

Very nice capture and good color for this shot.

Bonjour Helen,

I love since my childhood, Magpie, they have a bad reputation but good, I'm embarrassed it doesn't. There are many in my area, but whenever I see, or I don't have my camera or they fly, I don't have to do my last word, I think to get a day lolll.
Good quality of photography, clear, and your title is great and that your note (I like that you are a person like me, know how the family is important).
TFS, heartily, Corinne

We don't see these birds in Canada, so I tried to get some shots while we were in the UK. Unfortunately, we were almost always on the move and these characters are too clever to sit still long enough for me to get close :)
I must admit that I am hugely impressed by how much of your bird is in focus at f2.8! Superb bokeh to set it off too

Hello Helen, good shot of your 'vulture', the bird is sharp and the 2.8 made a great background, well done, thanks!

Mario

great shot well captured

Nice photo of a beautiful bird. Lucky you have these around. I this a Thieving Magpie? La Gazza Ladra?
