Azadi Tower

Azadi Tower meaning in English: Freedom Tower, previously known as the Shahyād Āryāmehr in English: King Memorial Tower, it is the symbol of Tehran, Iran, and marks the entrance to this large metropolitan city.

Built in 1971 in commemoration of the 2500th anniversary of the Persian Empire, this "Gateway into Iran" was named the Shahyad Tower meaning "Remembrance of the Kings, but dubbed Azadi (Freedom) after the Iranian Revolution of 1979.

It is the symbol of the country's revival, and intended to remind coming generations of the achievements of modern Iran under the Pahlavi Dynasty. It is 50 metres (148 feet) tall and is completely clad in cut marble.

The architect is "Hossein Amanat" who had won a competition to design the monument.

Azadi Tower combines the Sassanid and Islamic architecture styles. It is a part of the Azadi cultural complex, located in Tehran's Azadi square in an area of some 50,000 m². There is a museum and several fountains underneath the tower.

Atri:

Besides the impressive architecture I think the POV of this image is very good. Personally I would have liked a litlle bit more contrast, but I undersatn that taking a photo looking to the sky can be complicated.
Congratulations
María José

Hi Atri..nice perspective and composition..great shot.

Roger

Hello Atri,
A spectacular piece of architecture that astonishes me with its large dimensions and history . The blue sky helps bring out the tones of the marble it is made of .The angle you chose is interesting and showing only a part of the whole has perhaps more visual impact and i like it that way, good presentation of this beautiful monument Atri ,very crisp focus, thank you for your informative notes ,
tfs ,
Carol

Unusual composition!
I like especially symmetry of building.
Great photo.

Hello Atri.
Wonderful Memorian tower.!
Think I missed it when I was in Tehran in 1978, when the 'revolution' started.
Hope everything is well, nowadays ?
Best wishes from Jan
