[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this picture earlier today when I had gate guard. This is an Iraqi National Guard soldier that I was working with today getting ready to light up a cigarette, or as they call it, cigarra. I over contrasted it to give it the golden look and used a little saturation to help.

would be nicer if the cigarra was lited and smoking.

Great shot Phil! Very well composed! Post-processing is also very, very good!

Another good job!

Good choice of the golden look Phil! It makes it look very "historical" I guess, he looks deep in thought and troubled. Nice composition and framing.
Thanks for keeping us up to date on what's going on out there.

This one is very, very good. Fantastic efects. Criate an magnific environment! ;) very well seen.

Wow Phil! This man's reflective stare is both captivating and haunting. What a great capture. I personally like the shadowed effect on his left side and the golden tones. It looks like a Time Magazine shot. Great job on this one buddy...

Two excellent portraits one after another, you are getting really good at this. The composition is great and the golden look makes this image a lot warmer. Nice work.

Great photo! Wonder what his thoughts are?

Awesome portrait. Regards, DJenno

I have a hard time viewing your images, as I get teary eyed. You're so young, so brave, and so far away from home. So, if you don't see me critiquing a lot, you'll know why.

I like this one a lot because of the composition and the great golden tones you have created. Golden like a soldier, like you. Thanks for sharing all these wonderful shots, Phil. Keep safe.

Great picture, I love the composition

Great golden effect - awesome expression that you captured.

Powerful picture Phil. A great capture and a good effect. Stay safe...

i like real war photography there is a sadness & reality in it,moreover its dark portrays something about human misery.
I like the face of the soldier its tense...
I have done workshop see it..
I corrected overexposed brightness on nose & left chin, sharpened it

Hi Philip,

Hi Philip, thanks for droppin' by. i always like war photographs ever since a photojournalist friend of mine who was embedded with the US forces in Afghanistan showed me some of his war photos.... and yours is great portrait of a U.S. serviceman taking a cigar break!! Ron

Nice 'newsy' portrait but a trifle over exposed on helmet and left side of face needs lightning up a bit. Apart from that an excellent photo
Barry

An easy target!
With that costume seems more american than you! I their weapons will point americans some day.
But regarding the photo, I like the portrait and the colours. Hope we can see photos from the other side also!

Patricio.-

that's really a great picture. you can feel the emotions...
thanks for sharing

Great work! I like that, a typical war picture. The colour and contrast change make it even more war like, you did it well.
Thanks,
Christiaan.
