These lions live on one of the camps here in Baghdad. They were here before we came to Iraq but we decided to keep them around. There is one lucky male and about 10 females. Rumor is that sometimes criminals were fed to these lions as a form of punishment. Im glad that our government in the U.S. has banned death by lions :0)

I have no idea why this shot hasn't been commented on before now Phil...

I myself have heard of these lions in the press or maybe some of them... Not sure if they are the same ones. Your composition of this photo is good, I like the way that you have kept the sign in to share what is happening with them. Do you think that they will moved to a zoo or conservation facility at some time? I agree that the Male appears to be quite a lucky guy. Lets hope they stay that way!

Be safe, God bless.

Intresting notes, well, this won't be the reason I will sleep well, brrrr. I like the proud male lion, and maybe the "women" are arguing in the back... I did not see ten females just 5, maybe the rest hve been divorced ;-) I do not understand the inscription, if everything is forbidden why to start to detail that... But I can see you found that funny, because that is just from another pic inserted here. Nice job, and thanks for the note :-O

Good picture and nice colouring. I don't know about lucky male, it's a wonder he has the energy to prowl around let alone eat all those things they are not to be fed.

Your pictures are a great document of life on the ground in Iraq! Thanks for sharing them. This one, like the others, shows your sense of humor and also puts things on a human scale

Phil,
Excellent POV again...
Kind of satirical...
Congrats ....
Prem.

Lovely lions anyway and a very good picture. And we cannot blame the lions if somebody had the bad taste to feed them with human beings. The Romans did the same thing, so nothing is new under the sun.

No Dogs...

What is happening to the human kind? Appearently someone did feed them with dogs.

Good photo btw.
