[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Every day is a decisive moment for a soldier. You dont know what's going to happen next or how It's going to play out, but you know that you are confident in your training and the training of the men around you. You must always be prepared to protect your fellow soldiers. Soldiers are never hoping to use their weapons but in the event that they should, they are ready. The soldier's number one personal goal is to make sure that the men next to him come home alive. Stay alert, stay alive.

Like Eru-Marc already mentioned, impressive !
The composition with half-weapon and half-street is nice done together with a little tilt. The B/W is very strong, I like that and the "colour" in the bullets, very nice too, good shot, Philip ! !

wonderful composition Philip
great POV, the gun and bullets pointing towards the street...always ready...very well done

i like that the whole photo is b/w except for the bullets, it works very well for this shot

hi philip
great shot. i love the b/w apart from the bullets. i see from your intro you got back ok, i'm sure i'm not alone hoping everyone else that gets sent to iraq comes back in one piece.
sean

That weapon seems powerfull and fast automatic... I were 5 years in armys cadets lol... Not the same adventure.. But i was the first of my batch to receive a first class elite gunner certification... I emnjoy that entertainement with a great precision. Recreative shoot with 303 modified 22.. Te middle of the target was the same size of the bullet.. Everything count.. even the breathing...
I shoot twice time in a real army trainning camp with a powerfull gun that can shoot grenada with gaz at the max... I never forget the feeling of that gun... The powerfull shot in the shoolder :o)

But now when i shooting it's with a camera lol! But i recognize the sime reflex with the camera then when i was shooting guns... It shurely help...

Well i suppose i have more to say then a critic cause to have the feeling to be behind that machinegun... with your view... Automatically remain me some nice souvenirs.
Good presentation who give an even better sence when we read the note! Good shot :o)

Hi Philip,
I really like this photo. A compelling composition. The B&W effect except for the bullets is really outstanding. Great Job!
Scott

Very effective perspective. I like the idea of keeping just the bullets in color. They strengthen the perspective and view point.

Well done.

Hi Philip!

Excellent POV!
I liked its idea to detach the ammunition with the colors in contrast with B & W!
Good work!

Amazing capture, Philip, very powerful and moving. I love the selective color here. Well done, and thank you so much for serving our country in this noble cause!

Alli

Wow...What a unique POV...
I guess u have desaturated the rest except the bullets...
What a shot!...
A nice note to go wwith..
Thank you,
Prem.

Hi Philip- great shot- I like the BW for this shot with the brass rounds in color- good sharpness and clarity- thanks for sharing this and your service in Iraq! Much appreciated all your sacrifices.

Best wishes,
Steve

great one ,good angle, and good killing machine, héhé!

brave men, killing un-armed public.

And you must be confident their lazyness do not let them forget 500lbs of high power explosive in the basement.

Good photo, powerful image ( OK it is an easy one)

you deserve it

The picture is useful to study a military mind. Very well illumined subject, which empessises as what is in the mind of a soldier. Perhaps, the eyes are the sensor of brain.

The world has forgiven those who dropped a couple of N gifs on Nagasaki and Heroshima. Because civilised world values PEACE - PEACE, which is not taught in any military academy of the world.

Thanks for the post which gives a messege to civilised and educated people, if they have positive thinking.

Hello Philip,
quite impressive. The B&W works greatly with guns and the gloden bullets works greater.
POV and composition are good, we can feel the tension.

Regards,
Alberto.

I am hopeful that this could only be composed on the streets of Iraq and not anywhere else freedom lives. For me the composition would be improved if we could see just a little further down the street. Full points for the uniqueness here. I doubt anyone would try this shot on the streets of NY!

Powerful message about the men who protect their country. While I don't support the policy of Bush in Iraq, I do however support the men who are protecting the ideology of freedom. Is there a way for America to save face in Iraq?

I'm not here to comment on politics, just photos... so here goes.

I think this is a great photo. Such impact with the yellow bullets! Good POV and DOF too. I might have cropped a bit off the left myself though, but I think that's just personal tastes.

What a powerful shot (no pun intended).
I too like the B&W with the touch of colour for the bullets.

Bonjour Philip,
C'est une magnifique compo. Bien joué !

Hi Philip, very dramatic and excellent shot. Well done. I see the first round out and the 4th to 6th rounds have a different look. Tracers, softnoses or armour piercing?
Cheers

Powerful photo!!!
POV is excellent.Makes you think about all that stuff...the war...

Bravo!

Hi Philip,
I like this photo because of the strong, powerful B&W. You did a nice job using the street, the gun and the natural color of the cartidges. Great documentary photo,
