This is a great pleasure to see that shot in stead of...well you know. The media they think we are like sheeps, brainless or stupid. That's why I stopped watching T-V 3 years ago.
Anyway we won't change it. Thanks

Philip, I am very glad you posted this picture.
It is GREAT. I just love the subject, your wonderful and touching note and the shot itself. I find it to be an excellent journalistic photo. I also like it in B&W. I think, this is my favorite of all your pictures that I saw, because of its idea.
Your friend seems to be a very nice and kind person.
Really, God Bless ALL THE PEOPLE! Irina

Do you really think that the media doesn't want...Perhap's it's not a good shot because of no blood, no fear, no misery, no destruction...
Perhap's only usefull for the army, a very nice american soldier... at war...
But, a good shot, in my opinion, because of the smiles. Your friend and the child look like natural...human.
And I'm sincerely happy that you're alive...

I agree with cse, bichoo, an abramhowitz. As an American who comes from an Egyptian family I see here in the U.S.A. everyday propaganda about the war in Iraq. The media here tries to make us believe that all is fine and dandy in Iraq between the American soldiers and the Iraqi civilians. Since when is this "a shot you won't see in the news"? I think you need to consider the amount of Iraqi civilians' lives that were crushed and taken away as a result of America's colonization of Iraq. In retrospect, your photo is good as far as black and white goes, and the lighting, but the content and the message attached to it are insensitive to the plight of the Iraqi peoples. Be careful to not turn a blind eye to what is really going on. Thankyou for considering my critique.

IM NOT AGREE WITH MESSAGE OF THIS PHOTO WANT TO PRODUCE THIS RUBISH AND A COMPLETELY UNCOMPREHENSIVE TO POST AND PUT THAT NOTE GUIDELINES IN THIS PAGE,YOU DIDNīT HAVE THE SUTIL MIND TO THINK THAT YOU COULD DESTROY HEART AND MIND OF PEOPLE THAT LIVE IN THAT COUNTRY AND TO MAKE BRAIN OF IRAK PEOPLE BECOME HOSTIL WITH THIS KIND OF INSOLENCE AND PROVOCATIVE SHOT.
IM SORY ,IN MY OPINION YOU DONīT DESERVE MY POINTS OR USEFULL MARKING IN THIS.
MAYBE THE NEXT CENTURY.
WHAT COULD HAPPEN WITH PEOPLE LIKE THIS!!!??
POOR WORLD!!!

I was in Germany a couple of months back and there I learnt as sign of Hitler cannot be displayed - by Law. A question rised in my mind "Does people of Germany enjoy freedom of speech?"
This picture reminds me of those archieves which were published during the WW-II by the Nazi authorities. Americans are the same as the Germans were in the recent history.
As a monochrome, this is a fine image with good quality and very well composed. Thanks for sharing.
Philip,
I had to top this photo off with a good comment because those people who posted before were rude and immature. They seem like they hold the war against YOU. having two nephews in Iraq for a total of over 2 years, I can understand how you need to have this photo shown to the public.
No one seems to remember how many people Saddam gassed, how many people he tortured or how many people were killed needlessly. I wasn't necessarily for going over to Iraq but I will stand by (and behind) the United States troops forever. I am proud of them and I realize they have a job to do and they do it well. I am not for the Bush administration but he is our president and he has made a decision to go to war and put our troops in a position to fight. I wish them luck, safety and a quick return home. Don't listen to the hogwash that people say about how America is like Germany during the holocaust. Those people are turning their head on the truth about Saddam. WE are sacraficing our own soldiers for the Iraqi's, the countries that those people live in do not.
The Photo: I like the content, the use of B&W and the reflection in the BG.
Good work and bless you.

Hi Philip,
you're totally right, always when i see something in the news about the war in Iraq or Afghanistan they are always talking about the bad things but i have never seen a picture like this where you can just think of like: YES they aren't doing it for nothing.
TFS.

Hi Philip
In my eyes I think this is a great picture. I don't get to see a lot of military pictures from Iraq, but every chance I get I'm sure to look. I think the color and framing is very well composed, it could be brightened a little bit, but other than that I wouldn't change it. I appreciate it very much that you and all the other soldiers were and are over in Iraq. I don't think that it was wrong for you to post this picture. More power to you Thanks for sharing :)

Oh, come on!!!!! You DONīT really think that this pic shows "The good" happening in Iraq, or do you really?
Do you think it is right for any nation to do all the evil the USA have done in Iraq, in exchange for a picture of a little child with a soldier, none of which have a clue about the real reasons (oil) why their loved ones are being killed!?
By the way, if Saddam alone is an excuse to invade a soveraign nation, then I guess G.W. Bush is just as genocidal, and so, maybe America should be invaded for the sake of freedom....lol...And then we might have pretty pics of american kids by the side of some foreign nation soldier, who in turn would be calling himself a freedom fighter, I guess....
Beware, the fact you can see a pretty moment in the middle of war doesnīt make that war any less evil or meaningless.
In time: The picture is excellent!

O, yes! What about tho shoes from Iraqi people??? he show to hole world what Iraqi people really mean about the Americans!!!
People in Kosovo also love Americans but that's because you bombimng Yugoslavia and destroy country to help separatism, nationalism and terrorism in Serbia! even USA government has put KLA on their terrorist list, but because of politics, they remove them! over the 200,000 Serbs, after 1999, has been forced to live Kosovo and Metohija which is Serbian land with Serbian name! Now, Albanians change history, name, burn our churches, destroy graveyards, kill Serbs from fun and keep Serbs in ghetto without freedom of moving! THAT IS PICTURE MEDIA DONT WANNA SHOUW YOU!!! And they (albanians) have done that for almost 100 year back, until 1989 year! please, dont thrust me, visit the (www.savekosovo.com, www.kosovo.net www.kosovoliberationarmy.com )
