Musaylha
Perched on a rocky pedestal, this castle's dramatic location and the picturesque bridge crossing the Jose (Walnut) River make it a popular picnic spot.
The fortress as it appears today was built by Fakhreddine II in 1624 to guard the route from Tripoli to Beirut. You enter the diamond shaped castle by a narrow path and rock-cut steps. The door, which is protected be a machicolated window, opens onto a triangular courtyard that leads to the different parts of the castle. On the southern side of the courtyard you'll find an arched rectangular room with a little apse on the south side, in the exact direction of "al qibla." This detail identifies it as a prayer room.
The old bridge was built about the same time as the castle.

For many years it was not generally known that the small castle of Mousayliha, near Batroun, was a 16th Century foundation of the Ayyubid princes of Aleppo. Recent disclosure of this fact by the Emir Izzat al-Ayyubi of Nakhle cleared up a long period of doubt concerning the compact little fortress' origin and also brought to light the fascinating story of the Sons of Saladin in Lebanon.
Mousayliha - the diminutive form of Maslaha, Arabic word for a fortified place - stands alone on top of a - detached rocky spur in the center of the Nahr el-Jaouze river valley beneath the mighty cliffs of Ras Shakka's southeastern face - the only one of Lebanon's castles to stand thus at the pinnacle of a sharp peak, like fairy tale castles in story books.

64 km. From Beirut

For some strange reason the styled it "The Gothic Castle", although only refernces to the area's history indicated that it was near the site of an ancient Roman settlement guarding the narrow pass behind the Gibraltar-like Ras Shakka between Batroun and Tripoli.

PS:
This is my neighborhood, 5 mins away from my place… and I love to visit it from time to time, it takes me back to my origins and roots… and the strange part that every time I visit this castle I discover new spots, new point of views and new depth of fields in the history of my beloved country… in my next posts I will be displaying some shots of the outside outlook of this castle…

OLDIES remain GOLDIES no matter how intricate and impressive and sophisticated our new world is… the charm of the past is eternal…

Yes long note but I had no choice…. Have a beautiful journey no matter where you are..

Don’t hesitate to comment or critic.. thank you anyway:)

Hi Suzy,
Perfect antique photo, good filtering effect on this one. Sharpness is perfect on the old stones, and sepia colours look nice as well. Like from the history books... TFS!
Greetings,
Kristof

Hi Suzy, particular game of prospective here. The Seppia effect gives it a special atmosphere. I would visit your country and its beauty.... maybe one day:)

Good evening Suzy,

you are right...oldies are goldies. Personally, I prefer to stay in the places where you can feel the spirit of the past and where you can feel the soul of some distant times and memories...'new world', no matter how shiny and sophisticated it is, doesn't impress me that much.

Good composition and depth of field and wonderful use of sepia tones in this image. Good work...it makes me want to visit this place.

Have a nice, relaxing evening,

Stasa

dear Suzy,
old stones and old arches make a wonder space.
and your tone fits this dreamy view so much.
I feel the long time has solidified on all objects there...
this is "the time arch of stones".
thank you,
Akihisa
